Bridgestone Insignia SE200 tires developed "cupping" at 38,000 miles. Tire tread warranty 65,000. Firestone's "Michael" was certain that my shocks had caused the irregular high and low tire delamination spots on all 4 tires at the same time. He knew nothing about my shocks and there was no uneven tread wear. Further he said that the tire's wear bars were exposed (you could see them but being below the tread they showed no wear), so there was no way Firestone would honor the tread wear warranty.

These tires are more examples of Bridgestone's continued defective product. Firestone's customer service is abysmal.

cupping ?

Sounds like cupping to me which is caused by shocks , balance and ive seen it a lighter vehicles as well
geo metros ford escapes are notorious for this .did you do regular maintence? rotate and balance? you cant see an out of balance tire . If you went 38000 miles with out doing any thing then you did good,
I see this a lot people dont take care of their vehicles then blame it on the parts or person that has to work on it.Do your maintence

"Cupping" is the term that the Firestone employee used. My description of my tire's condition is:

Irregular tire diameter with tread depth that visually appeared to be constant, indicating, to me, that there was some defect occurring under the the tire's surface; likely to be either delamination or broken fibers or some other structural defect. The condition is present on front as well as rear tires. On left rear tire, the the "cupping" makes the tire diameter vary by about 1/4" in fairly regular steps all of the way around the circumference. On the right rear tire the cupping appeared to be present in mostly one location on the circumference. The tires are loud.

My car, an ECHO, is used primarily for my daily, city, work commute, alone, it is not used for racing, an ECHO is one of the lightest late model cars made, so the tires are definitely not exposed to harsh treatment. I believe that the tires are defective.

Since the report was entered, I have now spoken to the manager for the 1st time who said that he did not say that it was the shocks that caused the problem; he reserved that judgement. My mistake, I was told, was not rotating the tires. The tread wear to me seamed to be fairly even front to rear and the tires did not seam to be out of balance so I let it go. On tires that are showing the same defect front and rear, I do not see how a structural defect could be avoided by rotating. Firestone did not offer a technical reason rotation would prevent front and rear tire cupping.

Firestone's manager offered a resolution and I will detail it if consummated.

"Cupping" of tires can be caused not only by suspension issues but by low-quality tires. I cannot say for sure, since I have not inspected OP's car, which caused it but it not automatically an issue a problem with the OP's car.
