JUNE 2004, my wife, daughter and I went to comp usa look for a laptop for my daughter to take to college. After the salesperson told us that tap coverage covers everything including dropping the laptop. I purchased a laptop with 3 yr tap. The cost laptop was over $2,000 and the tap was $399 . Five months later, it fell off the bed, the casing cracked and the laptop does not go on. COMP USA claims this is not covered, regardless of what the sales person said at the time of purchase.
THEY WILL ONLY REFUND (PRORATED) THE COST OF THE TAP.

after reading some of these rip off letters, I am seeing a pattern of sales persons lying to the customers.
BEWARE OF COMP USA SALE PERSONS..
ARE THEY TAUGHT TO LIE TO MAKE A SALE?
ARE THEY IMPROPERLY TRAINED?

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE CUSTOMER LOSES.

i seen it all and more as an employee

i work at a comp usa store in ny. As a tech and i know more then their techs do and the service manager who does not seem to care about the customer in fact none of the managemtnt gives a s**t. they are taght to lie, to sell tap if you dont sell tap people get hours cut or people get fired the tap itsself is not honored and its a way to cheat people out of extra $.

I am not only a+ certified i am network + certified certified from dell and infastructure and design certified by microsoft and rated by the dod as well. the people especially business solutions who are paid on comission will tell you anything to buy put on a sales ticket also known as a g ticket.

the printers only come with starter ink and yet they tell customers it has full ink. I am not a person to lie to customers, them shrink wrapping of returned items is true done in the warehouse and they even have manufacturers tape to make it look legit(for laptops), management there have no leadership nor know what the hell the difference between a pc 3200 RAm chip and a pc 100 RAM chip.

i was thrown on the door as secrity because I had to do active duty otherwise I would still be in the tech services. the sales people dont know the difference between amd and intel. the hardware, and quality of the video cards i.e. nividia and ati.

just so you know comp usa is on the fringe of losing its foot hold in the market here in new york also the consumer affairs as well as better business bureau wants to shut them down due to their illegit and unfair dealings.

I understand totally where you are coming from

As an ex-employee I got alot to share with everyone here about this company and boy do I.

I worked for them a very short time before the turn of the century and it was hell. Regular Brainwashing to sell TAP (Technology Assurance Program) that was the sales floor name, (To Aquire Profit) was the break room name and in the retail manager's office. was oh so common and always mentioned at the start of the day meetings.

Warrenty service through the hardware manufacturer, through a Authorized Hardware Tech or local PC company is the best choice..

Their Tech center was a joke and all you hear about uneeded repairs on a PC or MAC are true.

MAC's had to be shipped off-site if the repair was anything hardware related. Service flate rate was $100 no matter what it was even for like a simple loose cable inside.

Warrenty repair or replacement was almost a constant shout Match between the Store Manager, Retail Manager and Tech Manager with an occasional escort out by Security or Police.

If the unit has been dropped.. unfortunately no place is going to cover that since it is Deemed "Abuse" and not "Normal Wear and Tear"..

Preasure Selling was the push for those in the Hardware Dept (Computers, Notebooks, Printers) Etc. Upgrades Dept as well.. no real formal training just get out there learn the products available and sell them to company sales quotas.

So much went behind the scenes. like shrink wrapping returns and throwing back on the shelf to resell after they been tested in the tech area as passed. wouldn't doubt if bad stuff got recycled as well, Frequent Point Of Sale network failures, Credit Card processing errors, safety violations, etc. and that is only a small fraction that went behind the scenes mentioned is most important and obvious.

I was a rouge sales person and upgrades counter rep.. I listened to the customer's needs and not those of the company. TAP was never in my mind, pointed everyone to good products that personally I would use myself. and none of the Junk they say should sell like mad. did not recommend their services or even training too which was a joke.

They couldn't fire me cause I did my job kept customers happy and they came back and asked for me for advice. so what they did instead is abuse the justice system cause I wasn't part of the clique that likes to do everything wrong and even things just was too demeaning to mention here. I'll just say the air stunk alot and it wasn't passing gas. so they devised an elaborate Cliesheye of bogus crap to get me out of there. stuff most know it wasn't true but they sided with the dark side. those that really knew me told me 3 months later what really happened.
it is sad that it comes down to things like that but people young and dumb will do favors for whatever sounds good. sure I been banned from the company.. but I will never ever shop there even till after I push the black roses. and I never recommend anyone to ever work or shop there.

Buyer Beware, Comp USA is no bargin. tons of hype and no real service.

You are better off shoping Best Buy and Circut City for software and if you need hardware?? go to your local PC Company.. they can build you a better rig and not sell you something that is timed to break in 2 weeks.

Would be Employee, Check out McD's or another retail store.

If you are forced to shop at Comp Usa.. I envy you. do your homework, check other ads on the weekends.. and if you must go there check everything!! purchase terms, hidden deals, like those free AOL offers you can get auto signed up for.. even check the package how it is wrapped.

Hope you can recover some of your wasted cash into the TAP plan.. keep fighting them.. never let them sleep 1ns.
