I had a credit card with this bank which I recently canceled. I pulled a credit report and I discovered this company pulled a hard credit report of mine. Hard reports lower your credit score and should only be pulled when a consumer applies for credit. I called them and they said they did it to check up on me. All of my other credit card companies pull a soft report that will not lower your credit score. I think they may be doing this to lower credit scores of their consumers so they can charge higher rates.

Anyone else had this problem?

#1 Consumer Suggestion

No Permissable Purpose

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

If you did cancel the card and have a balance left to pay, they do have a permissable purpose. If you paid off the card and owe nothing, they do not have a reason to pull your credit report. You need to dispute it with the credit reporting agency (or agencies) that allowed the hard pull. Be sure to cc that letter (send it certified mail, return receipt requested ot the credit reporting agency AND to the credit card company) to your attorney general's office, the attorney general's office where the credit card company is located and the attorney general's office where the credit reporting agency is located. Demand that the credit reporting agency remove the hard pull and demand that the credit card company never attempt to view your credit report without your personal authorization.
