Freelancer.com AKA Freelancer is a complete SCAM! I advise you to stay as far away from this company (freelancer.com otherwise known as Freelancer online) as possible. Freelancer is a COMPLETE SCAM! FRAUD! STAY AWAY! (sorry about the CAPS guys, just making sure folks who skimp through this article see it).
When I was reviewing this company (before I actually created an account at Freelancer.com / Freelancer) I was a bit surprised to read so many bad reviews about one company - Freelancer.com (AKA Freelancer). It seemed like EVERYONE had a different problem with Freelancer.com. But, like most people reading these kind of reviews, I was foolish enough to ignore those honest reviews and I went ahead and signed up / created an account at freelancer.com anyways.
What do you know, after working hard and my account hits the $1,000 mark -boom. I'm limited. My Freelancer account gets "temporarily suspended". After logging into my freelancer account I get the message "For account security reasons your account has been temporarily suspended. In order to reactivate your account, we need to verify your identity. Please go to the Verification Center to find out what information and/or documentation you need to provide.
Vist the Verification Center"
Odd. Isn't it. There was absolutely NO suspicious activity going on (at least on my side). The only "suspicious" activity was on Freelancer's part (Freelancer.com) which for some reason they decided to limit my account right before my first withdrawal. Seems like they don't want to give you your money you worked so hard for, so they go ahead and limit your account right after you make a withdrawal request.
But that's not it. Freelancer is FRAUD but their fraudulent activity has NO LIMITS.
So they request I submit proof of address and some other information which of course I did. I submitted a photo ID AND a drivers license (both 100% valid of course) but for some reason (they made up some excuse in the email) it wasn't good enough for them. These people are scammers, complete fraud, and on top of that they treat you like TRASH. They couldn't care less how hard you work for your money, despite valid ID and drivers license submitted for verification.
I suggest you avoid Freelancer.com (AKA Freelancer) at all costs. There are many other legit sites online where you could get even better service (not to mention that these sites won't steal your money after your account reaches $1,000 threshold ).
If your like me you'll dismiss this warning and create an account at freelancer.com only to find out for yourself how bad this company really is. But know this I'm not the only one with this such a bad experience. And no this story isn't hyped up a bit. Many hundreds (or perhaps thousands) of people are constantly complaining about the service (or the lack of service) they receive from Freelancer.con. Beware! Stay Away! You could search ripoffreport.com for other negative reviews or a simple google search of "freelancer scam" should turn up a plethora of articles on the subject.
If your smart, you'll search for another company (not Freelancer.com). One that treats its customers with respect and dignity not like trash as Freelancer does. And above all one that won't steal your hard earned money after reaching $1,000. Freelancer is a pure scam. Thieves. Fraud. And crooks. Don't touch it with a 180 foot pole if you know what's good for you.
Thanks

They don't go on public forums?
AUTHOR: Jason - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, November 04, 2015
It seems odd of them if they don't discuss things in public forums why they are on this public forum discussing the matter. I just went through the same crap with them. They stole my money and then when you ask for it back they demand identification. They oddly enough never ask for identification when they take your money. People should only give this company identification when they do the same thing; let them send photo identification to us.
They picked on the wrong guy with me since unlike alot of people I do have good legal representation and if they want to play games because they are in the land down under; let the games begin with your legal@ email... you guys are joke.

Alternative to Freelancer sites
AUTHOR: Astrid_Alatask - (Singapore)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, October 17, 2012
Hi,
I have been a user of Freelancer.com and other Freelancing sites for a while.
The one I was the most disappointed with was Freelancer.com as, like many other users, most of my money got stocked on the site , whatever actions you take, Freelancer.com collect a % fee:
-Your bid has been accepted? Bang! They charge you on an amount fixed by the employer that has not been even paid yet...
-You want to transfer your money to your bank account? Verifying the account takes ages and they take a % fee
-You want to add money to your account? They take a % fee, whatever the payment method you select...
As a result, and, as I am myself a former Freelancer, I decided to work on an alternative solution to this type of sites by leveraging the power of social network.
I thus contributed to the creation of Alatask, a Facebook application that put into contact Task posters and Task bidders around the world.
The advantage compared with Freelancer.com and other suppliers is that Alatask is benefiting from the power of social networks (increase trust between participants) and is not taking any fees from the post taskers and bidders.
I hope you will try it and let me know what you think of it and how it could be improved!
Thanks,
Astrid

Freelancer.com is a SCAM! FRAUD! Stay Away From freelancer.com if You Value Your Money.

Freelancer.com is a SCAM! FRAUD! Stay Away From freelancer.com if You
Value Your Money.
I agree with the views of Tim.
I am in a similar situation to his.
On September 26, my account was limited.
Ever since September 29, I sent according to their requests for verification 5x copies of the following documents:
1) valid ID card issued by a Member State of the European Union
2) valid Driving license issued by a Member State of the European Union
3) officially released and signed with the bank statement balance on my personal account of a branch of an international bank of which I am a customer
4) Official invoice issued in my name for the services offered by a mobile operator with international reputation
5) Several pages of explanations
Despite all this, my account is still limited.
I contacted the administrator of a Facebook page freelanser.com asking for help,
I was forwarded back to support desk and Verification centre
and again after my repeated requests, access remains limited and I can not withdraw the money that I spent with my honest labor.
Why is this happening, why this company blackmail customers to provide personal information in exchange of the money earned ,
why this company keeps money, not the owner, but at the same time charge a fee for service
I have many more questions.
But overall I want they to lift my account limitations and explain on what grounds violated several civil rights and collect personal data, and how they store it and use.
Thanks

In case you think this is an anamalee - think again...
Here's some other folks fussing about Freelancer.com
http://read2learn.net/freelancer-com-scam-2012/
http://expertscolumn.com/content/freelancercom-review-suspending-accounts-money-good-policy
[on this page ALONE there are 25-50 comments from people who think Freelancer.com is a scam]
[main article states that freelancer is a scam. Plus there's half dozen to a dozen comments which agree to that statement on that thread alone]
On the site(((REDACTED))) there's about a half dozen threads (and ENDLESS COMMENTS) about how freelancer scammed these people - one way or another. But usually by suspending account right before first withdrawal.
http://www.reviewopedia.com/freelancer-com-reviews?sort=high_rated
Out of about 14 reviews - a DOZEN of them say that freelancer stole their money. Overall rating? LESS than 2. (where 5 I the best and 1 is the worst).
