For the last 3 months this company has been calling my job leaving threatening messages telling me I needed to call them with bank information in order to collect on a debt that they will tell me nothing about. I spoke to a Mr.Levy a few times but he refused to give me anything in writing about this so called debt.

I believe if I do have a debt out there that I do owe it is my right to get any info on it that pertains to the debt. I am now receiving calls from a Mrs. Meyers who is very rude, I asked her for the same info and she tells me that the debt has gone beyond them providing me with any info. How dare her tell me I can't have any information on my own debt. She asked for bank info and when I refused she told me I better get a lawyer and hung the phone up. I am in the military and they have been making calls to my job up to 5 and 6 times a day harrassing myself or others at my job. I noticed that I am not the only one with this exact problem with this company and it is time that something is done about this.

File Complaints On Them

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

The actions you made reference to are in clear violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act as well as Chapter 392 of the Texas State Finance Code. You can start with filing a complaint with Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams. Pentagroup ,as well as all collection agencies operating in Texas, has a $10,000 cash bond on file with his office that they will forfeit if it can be shown they violated Chap 392 of the TX Finance Code. From there, file a complaint with Texas State Attorney General Greg Abbott. His office is in charge of filing suits to ensure compliance with chap 392 TFC as well as prosecution of violators. From there, contact the office of Harris County, Texas District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal. He is a tough prosecutor with a no nonsense reputation for pursuing law violators with a vengeance. Pentagroup just happens to be located in Houston which is the county seat of Harris County. Let me tell you those boys down in Texas don't play around when it comes to enforcing the law. When they say "Don't Mess With Texas" they mean it. Next step is to file a complaint against Pentagroup Vice President and Attorney James Joseph Thorpe with the Texas Sate Bar Association. His bar card # is 19989100. James Thorpes address is 2031 Pecan Forrest Ct. Richmond, Texas 77469. James Thorpe is a May 1986 graduate of the South Texas College of Law in Houston.Next file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and The American Collectors Association. Many people ask why the ACA? The ACA puts tremendous peer pressure on collectors to obey the law out of fear that an increase in consumer complaints will lead to further legislation and restrictions on the industry. The final step in this process is for you to send via certified mail ( US Postal form # PS 3800) with return receipt ( PS form 3811) a letter demanding they cease all communication with you immediately. This will stop ALL of the phone calls. I promise you that if you follow the steps outlined above your Pentagroup problem will come to a screeching halt. I worked as a debt collector when I was a young college kid. The typical collector is some kid in a dirty, cramped cubicle halfway across the country from you. His boss is typically a middle aged , morbidly obese, alcoholic type that smokes 3 packs a day. His boss constantly stays on him about his "numbers". To say that a substantial portion of the women in the debt collection industry have " Let themselves go" is putting it mildly. It sounds so bad and I hate to criticize the physical appearance of others but, I speak from experience. Many of the employees have alcohol and drug problems. A few I worked with even had felony convictions. The call centers wreak of cigarettes, body odor and cheap perfume. It is very difficult for a person that has any amount of personal integrity to make a living as a debt collector. To put it simple if you follow the law it is very hard to get people to pay. If they don't pay you don't make your commission. Needless to say I left the collection industry 20 years ago and have not regretted my decision to leave one bit. Always remember they have NO AUTHORITY over you.Don't pay them ONE RED CENT and always, always FILE COMPLAINTS against them and take legal action if you feel you have been wronged. Best of luck to each and every one of you.

Make Them Prove It!

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

I think your state requirest hat a collection agency be licensed or bonded to collect anything. You want to check that first. Demand validation of the debt. If you truly do no owe anything, file a complaint with the FTC (they are online) and file a complaint with the CA's attorney general's office. In your letter demanding validation, make sure you let them know they are NOT to contact you via telephone and everything is to be in writing. Good luck.

Info for "Debt"- Houston, TX...........

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

You have absolutely no idea of what you speak of.

Even threatening to contact this military member's CO is against the law, until AFTER you have obtained a judgement from the court for garnishment.

This is a blatant violation of 2 different provisions of the FDCPA that are worth $1000 each, plus costs to the victim.

Just because someone is in the military does not mean you treat the case any differently from any other employer/employee relationship.

I have 10 years active duty in 2 different branches, and National guard time. I know exactly how it works as I have been there and have dealt with low life scum like you.

You are obviously attempting to collect a time-barred debt, or a debt that you cannot substantiate.

I urge the military member to get a CIVILIAN lawyer through the NACA and file a counter suit in FEDERAL court for the violations of rights under the FDCPA.

This "Debt" person does not even have the backbone to provide a name in the post....AND if they are not doing anything unethical or illegal, WHY are they monitoring Rip Off Report?

Think about it!
