I really need your help in dealing with these crooks posing as legitimate business! I don't know what to do.

In the late fall of last year, I'd ordered ONE single box of Proactiv. I used a debit card to order and paid for the product in full. I do not have bad acne but I thought it may help on those days when I do. After being billed, I'd recieved my box of this "magical crap" which doesn't work for me at all.

However, I'd decided that I wasn't going to send it back for refund because I generally don't like to return merchandise unless I paid a small fortune for it and it turned out to be a wrong size. Who knows, maybe this stuff really does work for other people? I just decided not to deal with them again in the future.

Well, then I started noticing that every month on my check card statement, I had a charge from Proactiv Solution. However I know I specifically indicated "no recurring billing" when I initially ordered. I also never recieved another box of Proactiv in the mail so I didn't know what I was getting billed for every month. Air?

At the end of last year I had to cancel my check card and order a new one because of these strange charges and some other non-related suspicious activity on my account. In the begining of this year I'd moved and asked the Post Office to forward my mail. Sometimes it takes an extra month to recieve letters sent to the old address but I still recieve them all eventually.

Earlier this week I got a collection notice in the mail stating that I OWE $67.90 to the Proactiv Solution and that they themselves have tried several times to collect this fee from me but their attempts failed. Not true! I'd never recieved anything from Proactiv since that one box they'd sent me. The notice also stated that if I hadn't filed for bankrupcy, which I didn't, they were requesting that I pay over the phone using a credit card or mail this collection agency a check. (you know that funny little piece of paper that states your account number and routing number which in the future they can use again and again to bill me since they don't even need your check number these days.)

It also says that if I don't dispute this notice within 30 days of recieving it, (note: date on the notice May 30, 2007 and it is now June) the notice will stick to me and I'll be obligated to pay. I called the agency attempting to dispute and they said that I need to repot this "undelivery" of mail to the post office and also fax them my bank statement indicating that I did indeed pay them for the December, 2006 shipment.

I am SO confused!! I didn't order anything from them in December. I only ordered one time back in October! How can I show I paid for something when during that time I was waiting for my new check card to arrive in the mail and my old one had the Bank block on it because of strange activity?

I am still a young person and have noone to ask about how this process works and how this may reflect on my credit, or if it would at all since I do not have credit history yet. So, maybe someone could please explain to me what will happen to me if I refuse to pay? If I do pay them, I know I'd be running the risk of having them send another collection notice next month and then another one after that, or they'll simply just continue charging my bank account without my consent.

What should I do?

NOT!

AUTHOR: Farley Q. Fjnork - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 15, 2012

My mother passed away, and they sent a shipment several months afterwards...even after her credit card for "Pre-Authorized" shipments had expired.

I called to inform them, was treated poorly, and now my mom's account has been passed to North Shore Agency.

No worries - they can POUND SAND! I am VERY knowledgeable of the FDCPA, TCPA, FCRA and others. I can't wait for them to make one little mis-step...then they are MINE! (The last collection agency that WRONGLY came after a $179 mis-billing from a medical provider ended up writing ME a check for $3k! Pro-Activ.North Shore - get your checkbooks out!!!

I use Proactiv BUT...

AUTHOR: DeeMarie - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, October 20, 2011

I was very unhappy w/ the 19.95 commercial and I had to pay 90.00, so I really did not understand that at all.
Anyhoo, I do love proactiv, it helps me very much, but now I go to the mall kiosk and buy it when I need it. There is another BUT though....

I wish we could buy what product we need. Instead of the entire kit. Right now, I need the cleanser, and I do not need step 2 and 3, so I wish I can just buy the product I need at this time.

I went ahead and bought OXY face wash, at 10% benzoyl peroxide. My face will freak out! :(

So I've been with Guthy-Renker (distrubitors of Proactiv-Solution) for just about 2 years now. I take the inbound phone calls from customers and deal with their complaints and needs. I take phone calls about accounts in collections ALL the time, (i take about 150 phone calls a day) First of all we do not have your SSN # so your account "in collections" DOES NOT reflect on your credit! not at all one bit, so when your applying for a credit card or anything or anyone else who looks at your credit, does not see that you owe proactiv solution, we dont have enough information about you to do that, its mostly just to scare you into paying.

Second of all, alls you need to do is call proactiv solution customer service and tell them your moving situation (just simply that you moved) and never received ANYTHING, we will then remove you from collections and leave you alone. "OK you never received it, you dont have to pay for it, sorry about that.allow 4-6 wks to be removed clearly"..hope this helps, if you havent taken care of it already!...you dont have to pay anything, just talk to the right person and be nice...we're far nicer to people who are nice to us!!..ya know catch more bees with honey:)

I don't get it man, did you come here to help me deal with my current situation or discredit me for having a bad situation in the past? I did in fact spend tons of money on fake Psychics but I am not in dept to the society in any way shape or form and I'd like to keep it that way. I always pay my bills.

I do not need to be lectured on what my problems are and what they aren't. I'd love to just pay this off and forget about ever being involved with proactiv but something tells me it won't just end there. That's what deeply troubles me. I've quit my psychic habit but regardless of that it bothers me that some company will keep sending me bills for years to come.

Yes, I can refuse to pay this bill but wouldn't I suffer in some way as a result of it? If I apply for a credit card in a couple of years would I be denied simply because there was an outstanding balance from Proactiv somewhere out there that never got paid off? That is what I want to know. At least with Psychic scam I got something (a bunch of empty promises) for my dollar but with Proactiv I got billed for air.

It's just that, if I were to pay this off, how do I know for sure I won't get the same kind of bill again in a month or so? How can I do both pay off this stupid bill and keep my financial information safe so they can't bill me using it in the future over and over again. I want to pay but I'm scared to, because I don't trust the company I've dealt with.

I've read a few prior reports about this company and how this one collection agent was attacking a consumer saying how they're "trailor trash" if they can't pay. Well, I know for a fact that I'm not trailor trash and I have a reputation to keep even if it is not the best reputation in the world right now. Everyone makes mistakes. I've made a mistake by submitting my debit card information to Proactiv the first time.

This is not about 60+ something dollars, it's a matter of principle. Why do they feel entitled to help themselves to the money that's in my bank account without first asking permission to do so? Would you allow someone off the street to pick your lock while you're in the shower, walk inside your home and take a pile of cash that you had on the table then walk out? And then imagine that repeating every single month. Would you be happy?

Then, let's just say you installed an alarm system and switched to a metallic door that didn't allow the person off the street to pick your lock anymore but one day they came over with a bulldoser truck and told you that if they can't pick your lock anymore, they'll just level your house to the gorund unless you give them the pile of cash sitting on your table that month. And the next month they showed up at your door again with the same threats and request. How would you feel then?

Well, I'll tell you how I feel. I feel like I'm some prostitute that has to pay a chunk of money to her pimp every month to keep her safe and in business.

So, if you want to help with this story, please help but if you want to bring up the other one, then how about you do it in the other report? Or what you think that people out there get scammed only once in their lives and they can't possibly be the victims of consumer fraud by some totaly different, unrelated company?

I've got news for you my friend, I've been defrauded as many times in this life as the number of times you can say the word "fraud" in a time segment of 2 hours. I'd just kept it to myself most of the time because that would be sharing too much personal information. Who knows, those people might come out and post my full name or all kinds of personal information about me.

That stuff stays online for years and is most deffinately guaranteed to ruin any person't reputation. I'd then be forced to change my name officially just so that if I become well known in the future by chance, no person could point a finger and say, "hey, weren't you that one girl who gave a whole bunch of money to fake psychics?"

Also note how I kept the names of both fake psychics and the person I was asking about out of my report. That's because I know that if a word ever got to him about me getting readings on him, he'd simply crucify me or put a hit on me or something. I also never used his real name while getting readings, I had to give him a new name so that it would never ever come back to haunt me in the future.

I am a very private person and I keep many secrets both personal and other people's. No one knows everything about my life but me and I like it this way. Consumer fraud is a daily occurance, some keep it to themselves and some tell about it. I choose to tell of only two instances. Believe me there's tons more.

Here's What to Do

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 14, 2007

First off...are you the same Lana from Newport Beach who spent thousands of dollars on psychics only to find out that they're completely fake & unscrupulous? (See ripoffreport.com/reports/0/256/RipOff0256238.htm) If so, you have way more to worry about than the $67.90! If you are her, I sincerely hope you're feeling better and are not being manipulated by those crooks anymore.

As for the Proactiv thing...just write "NEVER RECEIVED PRODUCT" across it & return the collection notice in its return envelope (no matter how late it arrives). Keep copies. Don't worry about it "sticking to you" or whatever. Don't answer their calls, don't give them any checks, bank statements, account numbers, ANYTHING. Just keep sending back their notices with NEVER RECEIVED PRODUCT written on it. They'll go away. The less you engage with these people the better.

As soon as you saw that first extra charge on your bank statement, you should have called Proactive and explained that you never received anything, didn't want it anyway, & would they please put a credit back through to counteract their extra charge. If you handle it correctly & professionally there usually is no problem getting what you want or correcting a mistake. (Approach it like "We have a problem here & we need to correct it" rather than "Um...I was wondering if maybe I could possibly...") It looks like you waited way too long to address the problem. Also, don't use a check card because stuff like this does happen, & you don't want it to affect your main bank account!

Now that it's in collections, just keep responding that way as that's the fact & that's all you have to say.
