I took my car into Aamco Trasmission on April 6 , 2007 to have the transmission rebuilt and both my hub bearings replaced. They called me on 4/16/07 and told me the car was ready.

I went there paid 1,626.00 and started to drive home and noticed things were terribly wrong. The car was vibrating, steering wheel loose and it was making ALOT of noise from the front end. I took the car back they said they would look into it.

To make a extremly long story short I still don't have my car they have since sold th buisness and the new owners have no idea what the old owners did. My car is still not fixed and other problems are present and corporate and the new owners are agreeing to pay or fix the problems. Corporate acts as nothing but a mediator.

Corporate told me if the new owners didn't agree to fix or pay for the problems I would be responsible for the repairs. I also found out the mechanic was not certified. So if you see or hear Aamco Transmission run, do not be fooled by the name and the smiley faces like I was.

Please get the information right. I had my vehicle diagnosed at another facility prior to bringing it to Aamco Transmission, which the diagnoses showed none of the current problems the car is having. Therefore the issues had to occur during it's 83 day stay at Aamco Transmission. The owners and corporate agreed to fix the clicking on my car but later reneged.

***Unfortunately, all we have to rely on is the 20-year-old uncertified "mechanic's" word and yours. As you know, this person was terminated almost immediately when we took over the shop.****

I never once demanded or insisted that they give me a warranty on the parts I brought, but I did demand and insist that I get a list of all the parts that they replaced, which I am entitled to. I also demanded my warranty for the transmission to be adjusted to the correct date which was not 4/16/07. This was all wrong information given to her by her service manager.

***All I can say to this is that I was told by the SM that the customer had wanted a warranty on the parts. The customer supplied the parts (which we have decided we will not do in the future), and therefore believed her to have a thorough knowledge of all of the parts. When she wanted a list of the parts, we complied. The date of 4/16/07 was not deliberately put on the repair order. The software program that we use had backed up the date and we missed it. We had always agreed that the warranty should begin with 6/28. This was simply an oversight.***

As far as me getting the car towed it was very necessary because of not knowing what the problem was and they refused to test drive the car with me to hear the noise. Also I truly believe they knew the car was still making the noise when they called and said the noise was gone. All it takes is a little honesty.

***I do not even know how the customer would know that the noise was still there when she would not drive it.***

If the new owners had kept their word and fixed the clicking noise and the service manager had not LIED to me several times all would be well, my problem would have still remained with the previous owners only.

***Again, this car had been sitting at the shop weeks before we came on board. It as impossible to know what had happened to it during this time.***

I just want my car back the way it was prior to taking it to Aamco. Also I will prove that the current issues with the car were related somehow to Aamco removing or installing my transmission. So lets keep in mind it was clearly said an 20 yr old UNCERTIFIED mechanic was doing the work. Let's be honest and fair.

***I have absoutely no qualms about saying loudly and clearly that the previous owner had employed a 20-year-old uncertified mechanic who worked on many cars. We have told that to the 25 or so people who have returned their cars to us with a myriad of problems because of this. That is why we have had to spend $20,000 of our own money to rectify these problems as best we can. We are now out of money (which we would have spent on advertising, necessities, etc). We are legally seeking reimbursement from the previous owner, but, of course, if we do see anything of it it will be a long time in the future.***

I have no problem with the owners but the owners need to keep their word, and to be more involved in whats being said to their customers from their service manager. He will be their down fall if he doesn't stop lying and deceiving.

***The customer service manager (and our certified technicians) are the reason why we now have so many satisified customers. After spending several thousands dollars and over $300 in labor in trying to fix the customer's car (a car which was worked on by others), I can't do any more. ***

At one point I was even trying to help with advice to turn around the horrible reputation the previous owners had left. I had even tried to help her set up a women's work shop by asking some of my school instructors to volunteer.

***Yes, that was before the customer brought in a list of problems that included nothing to do with the transmission. When that happened, I became quite discourage that after the customer received new transmission and several new parts on her car that she would want other things fixed for free.***

I am at a loss as to how so many people kept their cars at this shop for so long without at least some kind of legal action to find out what was going on with it. Our policy is that when a car must come in for a transmission overhaul, it is out in three days or less. We instituted that policy precisely because of what the previous owner had done. I would never stand for my car being in a repair shop for two weeks let alone two months -- I therefore would never place anyone in that situation. It is well known the previous owner was simply trying to make as much cash money as possible before he turned over the shop to us (we did not know this at the time), and he left the warranty and problem cars for us (at least twelve). It has taken us six weeks and $20,000 and we still are receiving combacks that had been worked on by the uncertified mechanic.

All I can say is that since we have taken over we have satisfied every single one of the customers that had been stranded here by the previous owner except one -- and that is this customer. I find it interesting that the customer's car had been in the shop for so long prior to us taking over without so much as the threat of legal action, and then when we arrive and do our utmost to rectify a problem that was worked on by someone else we are labeled dishonest.

If you want to prove that the 20 year old "mechanic" did something to your transmission I can only say "go for it." But you'll have to get in line behind us and a whole lot of other people.

#3 REBUTTAL Owner of company

response to AAMCO customer

AUTHOR: Kathy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 29, 2007

My husband and I purchased the Dearborn Heights AAMCO from T. Zimballati on March 15, 2007. Unfortunately, the previous owner left us with approx. 12 cars tht had been there for weeks or even months. He had deliberately delayed any work on these cars because they were not cash paying jobs. In other words, during the last weeks of ownership a 20 year old uncertified kid repaired all of the cash jobs and ignored the rest (in fact, this employee repaired cars there for over a year without any certification whatsover).

This customer has had work done on her vehicle at another facility in addition to AAMCO (and this information is pieced together from the kid before we fired him and from the customer). When we inherited the vehicle, there was a clicking noise in the front when the wheel was turned. Because we came into the shop with an unclear history, it took us a longer time to even get any kind of logical diagnosis.

In all, we have spent 50 hours of labor on the customer's car (at no cost to her) and over $300 in parts. The car runs with a very slight clicking noise and the car drives perfectly fine. The customer had the car towed, which was unnecessary.

The customer insisted we give her a warranty on all of the parts that she had purchased to be put in the car, but we cannot since the warranty lies with the manufacturer. We have started her warranty on the transmission with the date of 6/28/07 for one year.

Because of all of the comebacks we have had to pay for due to the previous owner, we have depleted most of our funds. I simply cannot give this customer more labor time and parts.

Before owning this shop I would be right with you all demanding the heads of a good number of repair shops ever started. But now, since I am on the other side of the counter, I have seen for myself how dishonest and unscrupulous many shop owners are. I certainly don't expect anyone on this site to believe me when I say I am trying to turn around the bad reputation of this shop (and am starting to succeed) with being honest and fair with all repairs. I also realize that there are going to be a few people who will never be satisifed. A few weeks ago the customer returned to the store with a list of complaints for her car. Among them were several that had absolutely nothing to do with the transmission. I must decide to either go bankrupt by continuing to work on a car with a myriad of problems that keep popping up or to simply say that your car runs, it has a new transmission and $300 in new parts, and you have a 12 month and 12,000 warranty. I have to chose the latter for my family's sake.

I called them on 6/27/07 and they told me the car was ready to go the front end noise was gone. I picked up my keys before they closed and went back to pick the car up at 6:00 pm. Got there it took me 45 minutes to start the car, I had to get a boost in order to continue to try to start it. Finally I got the car started. In route to driving home the car began to stall at a red light. Once I got home as I was parking I heard popping noise coming from the front end.

I immediatly called the shop and left a message letting them know what was going on and that I would be there first thing in the morning. I drove the car right back. Went in this morning and ask if him (Ron) if he got my message he called their voicemail and claimed there was not one. I told him the car was still popping and of the hard time I had starting it, he immediatly said im not touching that car he said his mechanics drove the car and the noise was gone. After long discussion and contiuous refusal to check the car I just told them to adjust my warranty date which the previous owners had it dated 4/16/07 the day they told me it was fixed and had me pay but kept the car because it was still broke. Ron told me previously that the new owners removed the transmission to see if the noise was coming from there and that they found a bad clutch that would have given out at around 10,000 miles and that they replaced it.

Today he says they never touched the tranny and I reiterated the conversation we had. Ron then tells me he never said that and continued to claim diferently. I really feel used and abused by the previous owners and the new owners. I would not recommend Aamco Transmission to my worst enemy.
