We purchased a home that was covered by a policy carried by American Home Maintenance. When the AC unit failed to cool we made an appointment for them to come out and repair the unit as promised by the policy.

They did not show up until three weeks later because they called it a "maintenance call." I advised the repairmen that the circuit breaker may be the problem. (Two young men who didn't even know how to use a voltmeter tore into my almost new unit) I advised them that the unit outside may not be getting 220 volts and asked them to check that first but they showed me the LED lights on the circuit board and said it had to be getting power.

Then before fixing the problem, they tried to sell me a service plan for $600.00 (two units). I asked them if they were joking, that they hadn't even fixed my problem yet. After an hour of pulling wires, taking off panels, and scratching their heads, they advised me the "kick start capacitor" was bad and the real repairman would have to check it out the next day. They still tried to sell the policy before I told them in no uncertain terms that I would not be interested if they were unable to fix my unit.

My gut instinct told me I was being scammed so I called a legitmate AC company and they sent a service man right out. Within 10 minutes he advised me that there was no power to the outside unit. He solved that problem and then identified the three problems these incompetent fools had caused by pulling wires they did not know how to replace. They switched the low and high speed wires, blew a fuse that they replaced with an improper one, and bypassed a critical pump that had to be re-wired. Had I let these clowns rip me off, they would have charged us for parts we did not need, caused additional damage due to their improper training and tried again to have me pay for a service plan they are not qualified to maintain.

BE VERY AWARE OF THESE CROOKED TACTICS.
