ARS Rescue Rooter in Tacoma, WA replaced a toilet and a single handle kitchen faucet with sprayer and 2 stainless steel basket strainers for a senior citizen discount of $ 960.70!! This was represented as a " great deal " by the technician, Dan Carmichael.

Upon checking with 3 other licensed and bonded plumbers in the Tacoma, WA area, they said this was an outrageous rip off, and I should have been charged anywhere in the range of $450 to $700 max!! The toilet cost was $135.00 and the kitchen faucet with sprayer cost $49.97 retail price.

The basket strainers cost $11.97 each. (itemized as a $180 fix to replace, and Dan said this was a " 2 for 1 " deal!!) An angle stop value selling for $4.99 was itemized as a $100.00 fix because he had to go into my basement and turn off the main water supply to my home and replace, which took all of about 15 minutes!!
I talked with David, his supervisor and he said I had the typical case of buyers remorse.

Well, yea Dave, once I found out you overcharged me!!! A general contactor I have been using for various remodel projects also stated that ARS Rescue Rooter has a history of being outrageus, so PLEASE avoid these band of theives!!!

#10 UPDATE EX-employee responds

rip off????

AUTHOR: Ron - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 20, 2011

i responded to the post 7 years later because i just found out about the web site and it was the first time i had ever read the post. My main point it you cant b***h about the price when they show up for FREE and if you think the price is to much you can say no and they will get into there van and leave for FREE. you or your mom said go ahead and do the work for that price. it sounds like buyers regret. when you say okay i will pay you for that work and when the work is done (or you dont need him anymore) you dont want to pay for anything. Next time you should call the little mom and pop type plumbing shops, so when they break something valuable and dont have the money to make it right your stuck with the short end of the stick. Thank you (and its still EX-EMPLOYEE) RON

Ron Ex Employee is Wrong, ARS Rescue is a Rip Off!

AUTHOR: Vance - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 20, 2011

Cannot believe an ex employee(might not really be an ex employee) would take the time after all of these years to respond to something happening 7 years ago.  Since that time, I have had numberous house calls with several other reputable licensed and bonded technicians and learned that shopping and getting 3 or 4 bids is the best way to go.  If someone is  not willing to come out and do an estimate, simply hang up the phone and call someone else who will come out and do a free no obiligation estimate.  There are honest, hard working technicians who will quote you a fair rate and not try to rip you off like ARS Rescue Rooter.  Beware of ARS Rescue Rooter and get other companies estimates and save yourself time and money!

Good Deal

AUTHOR: Ron - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, March 20, 2011

There is alot of major Rooter companies out there and it sounds like you got a good price. I used to work for that Rescue Rooter company and after i left there I have had the oppruntunity to work for a few other big companies and the Second company i worked for the estimate for just replaving a toilet would be 800.00 So shopping around would benifit you greatly. For the amount of work that was done I would say you got a good deal and would work for them again they are a great company.

And for the last comment, A 5o.00 service call? Not in this lifetime. And if you do find someone to do it for that price I can almost garuntee they are not Licenced and insured. And the reason why there is no estimates given over the phone is customers dont always know what there problem is and there was a call i went to where the customer said his main shut off was leaking and he wanted it replaced I didn't have the right one on my truck so i went to the store to get one. After several stores i found the right one. Or So I thought. When I got there it wasn't the shut off It was a leak in the actual pipe about 2 feet up which made it alot cheaper (for him not me) and after 3h hours of shopping for the wrong part I fixed it up for him in 20 minutes and his bill was 205 for a basic service call. PLUMBING IS NOT CHEAP. there is a ton of stuff that the company has to pay for that you dont see. And you are calling a company that offers free estimates. The reason for the "high price" is think about the amount of calls that say no and that wasted gas and time for the plumber to come out there and NO COST TO YOU until you say yes to the quote.

Rescue Rooter - Big Rip Off

AUTHOR: Sol - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 20, 2004

I agree with the fellow above, how they use "smoke and mirrors".
I have a simple drain clog. I saw an ad in the phone book for Rescue Rooter.
What drew me was their "45 minute response" time guarantee. This is totally UNTRUE.
They'll come within 45 min if you're a new customer. Since then they've always been LATE or NO SHOW every time! I mean, NO SHOW, how rude is that!? When I do call about it they give some excuse or runaround, such bastards.
I asked for a quote over a phone and they wouldn't allow it, they said they'll send someone over. They do that so you'll feel bad they came all the way over, and you're more likely to use their service.
I thought it would be $50 for clearing a drain since I know nothing of plumbing.
Turns out the guy comes and does an estimate for $130+. What a shock, okay I'm desperate so I allow it. That's probably the going rate. I could've just gone to the hardware store and bought a rooter device for ten bucks. But hey it's a dirty job.
He said he'll come back later, which I think is a scam because he didn't. Someone else came back, eventually when I WASN'T THERE. And my sister signed the work, when I came back it amounted to $500!! I was enraged, I originally wanted the drain rootered. The guy talked like a salesman, and offered me other services which totalled over $1000!!! He said the pipes needed replaced, the drained flushed, etc, etc, etc. What a blankhole, so I told him to leave. He left alright, but kept my pipe parts!!! This means I'll have to call the company back to complete the job. What a joke, this company is. Don't do rescue rooter, find a reliable plumber thru your friends and not a phone book because I'm sure the other companies will do the same thing!!

Response to ARS Recue Rooter

AUTHOR: Vance - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 12, 2004

Jesse in customer service responds simply that since I signed the invoice on behalf of my visiting mother from Las Vegas ( my mother insisted this get fixed during her visit and she paid for the services), I somehow agreed to the fairness of the billing. I signed to appease my mother and to get the job done.
I am sure many consumers have found out after purchase or service that the "great deal" the technician or salesperson represented to you was not such a great deal after all. In fact, you were ripped off!! Rescue Rooter is way off the chart in their pricing.
They also (as with other contractors ) will not give you a pricing window until you have paid them to do a pricing service call at your location. The enticement to use them is that they will "waive" this fee if you use their services. Once again, this is " smoke and mirrors" marketing and ultimately caused me to get ripped off!!
You can avoid this by calling around until you find a contractor who will give you a general idea over the phone giving you the time to do some comparisons.

Customer Service

AUTHOR: Jesse - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 11, 2004

At Rescue Rooter customer service is our top priority. We work very hard to make sure that all customers receive products and services of the highest quality. It is our customers' expectation that they receive all information regarding the work that will be performed and the price prior to us starting the job. We will not begin a job without the customer signing the invoice authorizing us to start. In this case all of that information was made clear to the customer before any work had started. We would hope that any questions or concerns of the customer regarding price be brought to our attention prior to the work being performed not after the work has been completed. At Rescue Rooter we welcome all feedback and look for any opportunity to better serve our customers.
