I leased a 2006 Toyota Camry from Automobile Acceptance Corporation via Auto Smith in early 2012. 3 years later and with no missed payments EVER, I encountered a financial and medical hardship that caused me to miss TWO payments (one month). I called and explained that i would be able to pay the balance as well as the upcoming payment on that Friday. They came and picked my car up the Wednesday before, no explanation, no address to where my car and my belongings were being taken, nothing but a "call the office tomorrow" statement. The following day I called to speak with Tanisha or Tamika Robinson who was incredibly rude and harsh. She did not care about my hardship or the fact that I was able to pay what was owed. She simply told me it would be $1,220 to get my car out within 10 days before the sold it. That is nearly $800 more than what i actually owed in payments. They added pick up fees, storage fees, stocking fees, personal property fees, etc. All in all, she basically stated either you pay us that ridiculous amount or f*** you. Not to mention she refused to give me her first name, I am lucky the guy picking up my car mentioned her name to me. Two days later I received a letter stating that in actuality, instead of me paying $1,220 to get my car back in 10 days, they would like for me to pay the remainder of my lease with them within 10 days if I wanted the car back ($7,993). All in all, DO NOT USE AUTO SMITH OR ANY CAR DEALER ASSOCIATED WITH AUTOMOBILE ACCEPTANCE CORPORATION. They don't care about anything other than their money. Insensitive and inconsiderate!! Noone knows what will happen a month from now, and for them to not even work with me after I had faithfully paid my car notes early or on time for over 3 years is disgusting!

Harsh and inhumane?

AUTHOR: Empire - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 05, 2015

Your financial and medical hardships mean nothing to lenders; they're not in business to listen to your troubles. They're in business to make money, period. Want to complain about hardships? Take it to Facebook. Lenders don't care.

What explanation were you expecting to receive at the time of repossession? You yourself admitted you were two payments behind. Is that not enough? I can imagine if you weren't being paid for your services, you'd be pretty rude, too.

But the fact that you leased a six-year-old car from a subprime lender pretty much explains everything a responsible consumer needs to know about this alleged "rip-off".
