I have been banking with Coastal Federal here in Myrtle Beach for about seven years with absolutely no problem at all. Then the news came a year or so ago that BB&T was purchasing my bank. I was skeptical but kept the account because I knew of know other bank to turn to, and at that point had heard nothing about BB&T. Well it's a year later and they have pushed me to the brink of financial ruin! I put my money in the bank just as I've always done and I used the card with no problem to pay bills and purchase school clothes. Imagine my surprise when I checked my account on-line and it was $1200.00 overdrawn!! How can this be? I had $2000.00 in my account on Wednesday and now it was Monday and it's $1200.00 in the red? Well It's now a couple of weeks later and I still have no Idea how this happend, and BB&T will not do anything to make it right. They told me there deposit system was different and that it is an "intelligent system". I Googled "BB&T horror stories and this site came up and I see I'm not alone! Somebody tell me what's going on! I want to organize people who they have done this to and start a petition, go to the press, or something. How can we do that?

There's Steve

AUTHOR: Andy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 27, 2008

Steve works for the banks, that's why he takes a lot of personal time to explain to everyone how perfect he is managing a checkbook and how he has no ethical values whatsoever. Steve believes it is okay for banks to gouge people and misrepresent their overdraft programs to people. If you don't beleive just go around on alot of the complaints filed on here against BB&T, you will find Steve from Bradenton, FL. What I'm wondering is Steve claims he has only been with BB&T for a couple of years; do you defend all your other banks on here? Do you feel like you have some duty to society to teach them how to manage a checkbook? Do you want a cookie for managing yours for the last 30 years? When you realize this is not all about managing a check book and you leave your job at BB&T, you might see the consumer's point of view for once.

Philip, No Rip off here, just lots of other people who cannot manage a checking account!!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Philip,

First of all, I am a BB&T Customer and have been for almost 2 years now. I have not had even 1 problem with them. However, I keep an ACCURATE checkbook register, and do not spend money until it is posted and available in my account.

Here is what I believe you experienced in the transition from Coastal Federal to BB&T.

Coastal Federal most likely had a different funds availability policy on deposits, and/or allowed you to live on the "float". Once BB&T took over, you could not "live on the float" anymore, and now you cannot figure out why.

It is real simple! It is called a CHECKBOOK REGISTER!!
It simply amazes me as to how many people have such a problem with such a simple task as managing a checking account.

I have had a checking account for 30 years and never paid even 1 NSF fee! Actually multiple accounts in multiple states. No problems.

That is because I wait for deposits to post and be available BEFORE spending the money, and I keep an ACCURATE checkbook register.

So simple.

What does YOUR check register show?

If that $2000 included a recent deposit when was the deposit made?
