On the computer on May 2, 2011 I placed a reservation for a 24 foot truck and car carrier and confirmed it with a credit card and called the week before our move to confirm and was told we would have the truck and carrier we asked for.  The day before our rental I called and again was told no problem.  The day of our scheduled move we are told that they were having a problem finding us a truck but promised we would have one.  At noon we are still without a truck when we had a reservation for 9am.  At 7pm we still didn't have a truck, nor carrier for our 4 wheel drive vehicle.  I was told they would discount us for the trouble.  Whoopiee, we finally get the truck at 10pm that night which the dealer we were working with even came back to their shop to sign the truck out to us.  However, we were told at that time we would have to accept a tow dolly as they didn't bring him a trailer as we had requested.  Well needless to say he didn't explain to us how to hook the car or to use the chains with it.  We got 200 miles and one of the straps comes off and the car goes forward and hangs on the side of the trailer, we immediately called Budgets Road side assistance and were told they would send us help, and finally 4 hours later we got help.  Meanwhile two of our breading rabbits which were in the van following us died because of the heat.  We were more then two days behind schedule and budget almost cost us the home we were moving to.  Budget told us to call them when we turned in the truck and they would make up for the losses and delays and we did and now they refuse to do anything about our two dead breeding rabbits and about our extreme delays and I am insulted that all they are willing to refund to me is $73 for our troubles.  I wouldn't recommend Budget to our dog is he had to move.  They treated our family like third class citizens.

Are you serious???

It is the LEGAL and MORAL responsibility of any driver who operates any vehicle on public roadways to be familiar with the equipment being operated, which means being experienced.

You really think it's ok for someone to operate a vehicle without knowledge or experience? You are obviously an idiot.

And, when that amateur kills someone on the road, I would just hope it would be you or your family as you were the one who thought it was OK.

I am a professional commercial driver, and have over 1.5 million commercial miles in a big truck. I have covered almost every mile of every highway in the United States, and half of Canada.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that rental trucks and trailers are the number 1 road hazard out there, as I have seen the major pileups and numerous fatalities as a result of inexperience.

You are an idiot.

Steve, it wasn't the family's responsibility to know how to tow. If the idiot Budget guy leaves them a tow dolly with what appear to be simple instructions, they can't be expected to know what kind of danger they're taking on. The Budget guy ought to actually be brought up on charges if the law requires such types of tows to be done according to any kind of safety standard, by leaving such equipment to be used by folks who couldn't be expected to know how to do it properly. As for their long drive time for 530 miles, we don't know their situation. Some folks need to take more frequent, or longer stops along the way for many reasons, sometimes health related. Some need to stretch a drive like that over 2 days, etc. We don't all have the luxury of budgeting (no pun intended) an extra day to allow for an unexpected crisis. Employers and scheduled appointments we have to keep don't care if a vehicle we depended on suddenly isn't available, forcing us to push everything off a day. But as for the rabbits, well that part smells to me. Why couldn't someone in their party get the rabbits into the shade or something. It's not like they were stranded in the middle of a treeless desert. Didn't they have water, etc for the bunnies?

Robert and Others:

My point being this for those of you who wish to defend them,

1. We had a reservation for a car carrier, not a tow dolly.
2. Our reservation was for 9:30 AM not 10:30 PM
3. While they didn't kill our rabbits they did in fact cause their death simply by the fact that had they given us the d**n car carrier in the first place our trip would not have taken as long and we would have been able to get to GA on schedule.  We were suppose to leave out early Sunday Morning had we had the truck and gotten it loaded on time.  While I understand they are not responsible for the death of our two breeding rabbits, their having us sit on the side of the road for four hours subjected them to extreme heat and therefore indirectly caused their death.

4. The incompetant people at their call center made promises they didn't deliver in that all during the prior days to us getting the truck they promised they had us a car carrier.  Had we has this equipment we would have been fine with even the loss of the rabbits.  But this added insult to injury. 

5.  They told us on the phone that we were to turn the truck in on Friday at 1pm but the paperwork had on it for the return on the 9th not the 10th. 

In short Budget Truck dropped the ball in every aspect of this rental and to say that we didn't plan well is bogus as we had reservations for a month, we had all our things packed and ready to load on the day we were suppose to get the truck and carrier, but we didn't get the truck then did we, no we got it late at night which is not what we asked for.   Defend them if you must but I am listing them on our business website as a messed up company not worthy of peoples time or money.   I am done with budget and will never rent from them again.

I don't really understand why reading comprehension has seem to be all but lost these days.  If you actually read what I wrote I am not defending them, in fact I specifically said that I am not saying they didn't do anything wrong.  They did when they didn't get you the truck on-time.  But it is becoming obvious that you are trying to blame them for things that are 100% your fault in  your poor planning.

You stated you were planning on getting the truck loaded by Saturday Night, because of their delay you didn't get it loaded to Sunday night.  That is a 1 Day-Delay.  So instead of leaving on Sunday Morning like you had planned you would have had to leave on Monday Morning at the latest.   Again that puts you 1 Day(plus 4 hours) behind.  So you are leaving something out as to why you didn't arrive until Wed.

As for a 16 hour drive for 530 miles.  What speed were you travelling..Seriously that is an average speed of 35 MPH.  Even at an average speed of 50MPH that can be done in just under 11 hours, leaving a little over 5 hours for fuel and breaks,  that is you would have enough time to stop for an hour every hundred miles.

By the way you still didn't say how much you paid.

We were suppose to have the truck at 9:00, we didn't get the truck until 10pm and couldn't get the truck loaded until Sunday morning and finished loading late Sunday night.  We were suppose to be in Georgia by Monday.  We didn't get in Georgia until Wednesday. It's a 530 mile drive.  We had planned on leaving Early Sunday morning or late Saturday night.  It's approximately 16 hour drive with planned stops for fuel and meals.  We opened up the back of the van for air for the rabbits while waiting for the  repair vehicle.  Each time we called Budget we got bad attitude and empty promises.  Had Budget honored our reservation and had the travel trailer for our vehicle and the truck at the time of the reservation instead of 14 hours later, we would have arrived to our destination on time, and we wouldn't have lost two rabbits which make money for us.  Budget didn't communicate a problem with us until we called because the dealer didn't have the truck or trailer.  Budget dropped the ball and don't honor reservations.  They rely on excuses not facts.  Regarding the tow dolly, the dealer simply hooked it to the truck and handed us the keys to the truck.  He told us to drive the vehicle onto the dolly while it was hooked to the truck and that was all he said.  He left and went home.  Budget has a history of this sort of thing so your defending them don't make sense unless you work for them and are trying to put the blame on us for their negligence.

First of all, Budget is on of the smaller operations with less equipment than some of the larger rental truck operations.

Second, if you are unfamiliar with tow dollies, or towing in general, you should not be doing it. You risked the lives of everyone on the road with your stupidity.

Third, are you like the Beverly Hillbillies, or what?

Breeding rabbits??

Budget is not responsible for the lives or saferty of your livestock.

Rabbits are wild animals that live outside, right?

So what changed?

Did you have them locked up in a closed truck?

Your entire clan appears to be really ignorant.

What does the problem you have with Budget have to do with a pair of breeding rabbits that were in a van following you dying?  If you are saying they died because of the heat, it seems like you probably could have done something to ensure their safety.

You also say the dealer didn't explain how to hook up the tow dolly.  So did you ask?

I see a delay of 13 hours to get the truck, and 4 hours to wait for roadside assistance.  So even if we say that because of the truck delay you couldn't start to move until the next morning, it is now treated like you got the truck at 9am the next day.  That would put you a day behind plus a few hours.  So how does that equate into being "more than two days" behind schedule? 

I'm not saying that they didn't do anything wrong.  But it seems as if at least the dealer was trying to help(he did come back at 10PM at night).  I am sure he would have much rather had the truck during the day and didn't really want to do that either.

What was the cost of the Truck and trailer supposed to be?
