Buyer beware I am writing this in the hopes that no one else will ever have to go through the torment Sprint has put my family under. We signed up under a new contract with Sprint and they stated that our new family plan would only cost us $69.99 per month according to the contract. I was shocked to get a phone bill over $189.00 I knew this could not be right so I looked over the statement and found that Sprint had added multiple charges for ringers that cost $9.99 each. On the statement these charges were called Flycell-Ringers-Acotel Binary. My wife and I never at any time ordered any such ringers. I simply called Sprint customer service 1888-211-4727 and tried to get the matter resoved. After providing details to the "customer care" representative I was put on hold and told to wait while he transferred me to another person that can get this taken care of. I was on hold for over an hour and then I spoke to Sprint Rep#2. She stated that these charges were from a 3rd party company called Premium Services. I stated that we at no time authorized such "Premium Services" and that I wanted these charges to be removed from my account. She said hold on while I transfer you to Technical Support they are the ones that can block your phone from getting these charges in the future. After holding for another 30 minutes I spoke to Technical Support, the lady in that department seemed very helpful and concerned for my situation. She even got the charges removed and told me the matter was now taken care of and it should show up on your future bills.

Next months bill showed up and it was correct just over $82.00 with charges and taxes. I was happy that this matter had been resolved or so I thought. My November bill arrived and this time three new Flycell Ringers Acotel Binary charges appeared on my statement each at $9.99, Sprint even decided to throw in another fraudulent charge called Funmobile Alerts- 96621-text alerts for $5.99. Our cell phones do not even have text message capability! Our November bill was $125.40 over $40.00 extra. Once again I called customer care and was put on hold as they transferred me to 5 different reps. When I asked rep#5 why these charges had reappeared she stated that they were from a 3rd party service and their is nothing she can do about it but she would transfer me to Technical Support. The man in Tech Support said he couldn't remove the charges but he would make sure to block the 3rd party company from adding them again. I told him that I have already spoken to Tech support over a month ago and they were supposed to have already blocked any future occurance of these charges. He put me on hold for a few minutes came back and said I'm sorry sir but we have no record of you ever making a request to block Premium Services. I then stated if these charges are really from a 3rd party company why does Sprint allow them to add things to my phone bill without my consent. He then said their was nothing he could do about it and that Sprint will need us to go ahead and pay the bill in full. I countered "but you just said you were going to have them blocked isn't this Technical Support?". He stated that he could tell I was upset and that he would need me to hold while he goes and gets his supervisor. I was sick of the 2 hour holding game and stated I will be contacting Sprint in writing.

I wrote a formal letter of complaint regarding my November bill and warned Sprint that if these fraudulent charges are not permenantly removed from my account I would contact the Federal Trade Commission and the Texas state Attorney General. My wife and I then deducted the erronious charges ourselves and sent in the amount of $85.44 for the amount we actually did owe telling them to correct the bill and that we will not pay for charges we did not authorize.

Our December bill arrived showing our payed $85.44 for our November bill and included a late fee for not paying on the charges we have disputed for November. Sprint even decided to add more Acotel Flycell ringer fees to our December bill. It seems that Sprint thinks they are immune to the Fair Debt Collection Act which by Federal law prohibits any bill collector from collecting on a disputed amount. They have still to this date not even responded to our letter of dispute. Now we have no other choice but to follow up with a letter to the Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission.

Buyer beware Sprint together with Nextel is a crooked greedy fraudulent company that will try to add as many hidden fees and charges to the phone bills of innocent consumers. If anyone else has had to go through this or has any advice on what we can do please email us at kdbrookshier@fusionbb.net

Sincerely Hurt and Betrayed Consumer

premium services

AUTHOR: Sprint - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 29, 2006

i am a sprint customer service rep ...one thing that a lot of people don't know about premium services is that they are advertisments or something that you have subscribed to...these places are 3rd party companies and i have to explain this everyday to customers...

these companies have no restrictions from the law to stop what they are doing and as a service rep i try everything to block them but that doesn't alway work they are more like telemarketers and due to the law not catching up with technology there is no laws against them and they can do whatever they want you can text them to stop, quit, unsubcribe, end until your fingers bleed and not always does that work...

now the texting is only for premium services that are like text messages (joke of the day, daily horoscopes, those advertisements that you see on tv like text 55555 and get this ringtone ect.), or maybe you downloaded a ringtone, call tone, screensaver or what ever from dada mobile, slingo, boungorno, freecell and other "free" download companies (don't fall for the free ringtone scam because when ever you do in the fine print you are subscribing to them which is usually $9.99 a month), or you download a game and it has a monthly service charge to them (yes there are games like that for cell phones its due to a national score board not just the score board on your phone, this also include ringtones, screensavers ect due to some of the copywrite contracts will only allow the use of them if there is a monthly fee and if people would read the fine print they would know that they are responsable for the copywrite fee)make sure that you actually read what you are downloading cause once there on it maybe impossible to stop them...

but that is when you text the stop, quit, unsubscribe, end...and blocking them yes they can be block but doing that can stop some phones from even downloading at all, and also the blocks don't always work due to it is a computer system that holds millions of customers so you can't expect it to block every little thing NOTHING IS PERFECT...also if you just go to yahoo and type in ringtone and pick a site some of them will make you put your phone number in just to view the ringtones, screensavers, ect. and by just putting your phone number in to look signs you up...or if you have someone mad at you they could be doing it to all they have to do is know your cell phone number, or maybe someone did it and typed there number in wrong and it was your number that they typed in...also these companies have several short codes (they are called short codes due to they are only a 5 digit phone number instead of 7) and if one is blocked then they will just use another one...and with all cell phone companies they can only block one short code at a time so if they use a diffrent short code then you have to call up every month to have it blocked...now the fcc, ftc, or a state attorney generals office, can do some due to they can order these companies to stop but some of these companies now have moved over seas and can't be regulated by U.S laws...but by U.S. laws sprint has to charge you for these services if they don't they can be fined by the fcc and sued by these companies for millions of dollors for none payment due they don't bill you they bill sprint and then sprint pays and then bills you...

and with the adjustments of these premium services sprint tries not to give them because they are out 2 ways and you might not think that its that much but if you think about it if every customer got back money for premium services a lot of rates would go up and then customers wouldn't be happy with the rates of plans and attachables and they wouldn't stay and the company would go bankrupt...now there is another way that premium services can go on an account is by computer generation and the way these companys know how to contact you with this s**t is because they have a computer system that generates numbers...there is not mobile number telephone book...the computer just goes one by one like 555-555-5555, 555-555-5556, 555-555-5557 well you get the point and what doesn't come back to them they know is good so they keep on sending them its pretty much the same with email addresses but due to a sprint, cingular, verison, tmobile and all the other companies there email address aren't really considered "real" email address they are considered usernames to access your web page by the use of your mobile phone...

so like i said the law hasn't caught up with technology or they can't be regulated by the fcc, ftc, or state attorney generals due to they are over seas...people blame there company every day for these issues and most of the time its due to they don't read the fine print, someone gets mad at them and does it, someone might try and do it and get the number wrong, or they are computer generated numbers and email address premium services are rare but its new and takes alot of money upfront to start but unfortunatly they are growing fast and i'm seeing more and more of them, but you have to relize these thing might get on your nerves but by the law sprint, cingular, verison, tmobile and all cell phone companies have to bill you if you really want justice you need to report these premium service companies, call customer service to get the number, and/or you can go into a websearch for these companies and get the number off of there website...
