A charge was found on my debit card for $79.95. I had no idea what is was so I called them up. He asked me for my credit card number, full name, and last four digits of my social. I told him I didn't want to but he claimed itw as the only way to see the account so I gave it to him but the account is closed today.

He told me he would refund me, asked me if I had accessed my credit report through them recently. I told him I had never even heard of them until that charge, he said my account reflected that I had accessed them through Yahoo Wallet or something from Yahoo. I figured it out. When I paid something else or signed up with Yahoo Wallet you know it asks you if you want any of those other services? I always say no and uncheck the checked ones, well looks like I missed one.

So not only and I angry with CIC I am angry with Yahoo for that mistake. Beware of CIC, we are eagerly awaiting a refund from the. I also asked him to take me out of his database.

I forgot to mention that you should call the credit card company and get their address for sending in correspodence related to billing disputes.

Some credit card companies have one address to accept bill payments and another address or billing disputes. If you send you letter to the payment center, the dispute letter might get.

You should also follow up with a phone call to make sure they didn't lose the letter and get the name of someone you talked to. I once had an unauthorized charged on my MBNA Mastercard. From a Hotel in France. I've never been to France. I called to dispute the charge AND put it in writing.

One person claimed they never received my letter yet another person acknowledged having it. I finally sued them in small claims court and the agreed to pay me back plust 10% interest.

Dispute the Charge in Writing

99.9% of the time, the credit card company or debit card issuer will reverse the charge if you dispute it within 60 days of the billing cycle. They will encourage you to "resolve it with the merchant first", but why would you trust a merchant who already put an unauthorized charged on your account?

I also recommend send your letters in such a manner that gives you conformation of delivery such as fax. I usually prefer USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. It's a little more convenient than ceritified mail and a merchant is less likely to refuse delivery because they don't have to sign for it.
