This company called me to offer me a student credit card. Having been burnt by scams and real companies cheating I knew the questions I should ask. I asked for the terms of the card which companies are legally required to give the consumer when making an offer.

The agent told me all of that information would be sent in the mail. I insisted on them telling me the terms. She insisted they were not sending me an actual card but an offer to consider. When I persisted the woman asked me what I meant because they had great benefits.

I then asked her if it was a secured card. The woman had no idea what I meant. I asked her if I would be required to send them money and they charge against the balance. She insisted it was an actual card with actual credit. I asked where the company was located. She said they were an Indiana based company.

Through out the call she attempted to dodge my questions and get me to give her personal information such as date of birth etc. (I get plenty of credit card offers in the mail and never had to give out that information).

I asked her for the spelling of the company (she had a thick accent so it was difficult to understand). She again asked for personal information. I asked her to wait and told her I was looking her company up on the web to check it out before I gave them any personal information. She thanked me for my time and hung up on me before I could finish typing it into google.

A quick search reveals several different complaints on several different sites. Not all of them about people who didn't read there agreement but what sounds like legitamate grievances. For example, they say they are sending you information but they actually send you a card.

They are shady on fees and billing. Also they are located in Madison, not Indiana. And more...

Also I searched their site quite extensively. I could not find any of the federally mandated information that they are required to give about their offers.

I did find their card agreement after a bit of searching which had fees buried in the fine print, but no APRs listed.

Just wanted to share my experience for anyone else who might get called and put them into google before giving out information.

Hello,
I just wanted to clear up some things. First, Clout is based in Indiana, and they have a customer service center in Madison. As far as the specifics about the offer, they wouldn't be found on the website. They are on most other bank's sites, but that's because you can apply for a card there. With Clout, it is an invitation only program. I can't really comment on the call you received from the rep offering the card to you because I'm not in that department.
