I enrolled in the online program at Grand Canyon University in order to get a Masters in Education. They contacted me quickly, and were somewhat less expensive than other online schools. They sold me on the ability to buy my textbooks on my own, their so-called advanced internet school (blackboard), and a financial aid package that would help pay for the two years it should take to complete. I became worried from the start when they began pressuring me to pick a start date a month from my application. I spoke with the advisor and said that I was not prepared to begin quite so quickly. She then offered a start date a couple months later. I filled out all the paperwork they sent me including an email where she stated that they handle all transcript requests and would let me know if there was anything I needed to do. I became increasingly worried as the start date approached but I never received any official documents from the school other than emails from the one advisor. She sent me several emails including ones welcoming me to the school and giving me instruction in how to log in. I never received any login information or codes so I had to contact her again to get that information mere days before classes began. Financial aid then emailed me through the school email in order to accept my financial aid. I accepted the amount and it went through. There was virtually no communication with anyone at the school and no one to answer questions. They refer you to long automated computer responses for technical problems. The classes never gave preliminary information in order to actually order textbooks so by the time you ordered them, you were halfway through the class. After two classes, I was highly unimpressed with the quality of education. The "lectures" were a one sheet bullet point document that highlighted general headings from the text. They were completely irrelevant and useless. By the first class, I felt like I had not learned a single thing and by the second I was over the whole experience.

I left the school and then get a letter from a collection agency six months later stating I owed them $3000 for the two classes. They denied that I had been awarded financial aid and said that I had never been officially accepted into the school despite having taken two classes. When I produced over 20 emails from the school including the financial aid acceptance, they had me fill out an appeal and submit the emails. I did so whereby they state that my appeal was denied on the basis that they had record of someone calling my house one day to discuss transcript requests. I demanded the names of that person and they refused. At this point, they had already handed it over to collections anyway so it was already on my credit report.

Beware of a waste of money, a school of crooks, and one that touts moral principles when in reality it is a money scheme. The quality is atrocious; you'd do better at a community college than this so-called school.
