Colonial Home Warranty They would not stand by contractual terms of the warranty coverage and outright mislead you every step of the way. Wilmington, Delaware

We signed up for Colonial Home warranty on November 7th, 2012. We were told that there was a 30 day waiting period before we would be eligible for filing any claims.

On the weekend of 8th the lights in our house started flickering for no reason, so I checked the electrical panel box for a blown fuse. I heard sparking sounds inside the panel and I decided to call the Home Warranty. The after hour service lady said their computers were down so she could not enter my information into the system for a claim. She said I could call a electrical contractor on my own and have the problem resolved and file a claim later. I knew a contractor and called him explaining the problem, read out the make and model of the electrical panel and was told by him that it was a 25 year old panel box which in all probability might have to be replaced due to age and wear-and-tear.

Monday, Dec 10th, someone from the Colonial Claims called and said a claim had been opened and assigned to a Local company belonging to Mr. XXX XXXXX. He gave me the phone number to call the contractor myself. The contractor said he had not received any work order from Colonial as yet until which time he could not do a thing. At this point of time Colonial staff were Ok with covering the claim according to their own statements.

Once the contractor let Colonial know that the electrical panel box had to be replaced, Colonial Claims called me and said that I had to actually wait another month for me to be eligible to file a claim and that the one month wait period only started after the initial one month. That was their first excuse. Then he added that the work involved any entire system replacement and hence was not covered under warranty. This was not true since only the electrical panel was to be replaced, not the entire electrical system.

This was the second excuse. He also added that the Contractor had quoted an amount of $1600 which was beyond the limit of $1500 what Colonial promises to cover. This was the third excuse. Excuses, excuses,excuses. They are complete cheats and I am surprised why there has not been a class-action law suit brought against this company yet. At least, the Delaware State agencies can go after them. But who knows, the company might be greasing the palms of some political big-wigs there at election time, in order to remain in business.
