Commerce Payment Systems DO NOT GET SUCKERED INTO USING THIS COMPANY! Hewlett, New York
To start off, I have never lodged a complaint about any person or company in my life. These guys need to be put out of business!
The Beginning: I did not experience the "48-hour" turnaround they advertise online. Instead, it took over 2 weeks for my business to begin processing cards. I could give a detailed accounting of the dozens of phone calls made and hours of frustration I experienced, but I'll save it. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt due to the fact that I was labeled a "high-risk business" (I'm a new contractor), and thought things would get better after the agonizing set-up process.
So after I got set up, I processed 3 cards the first week- 2 on Wednesday January 19th, and 1 on January 21st. 1 week after the 1st 2 cards were run, I noticed that the funds were never deposited in my account and I immediately called customer service.
Now things get interesting. I'm told to fax in the 3 customer invoices so that Commerce Payment Systems can call my customers and make sure the transactions were not fraudulant. WHAT!!? I never would have signed up with these guys if I had known they would need access to my customers....Shaaaady! I did fax in the invoices with the telephone #'s blacked out.
Again, numberous phone calls and I get nothing but the run-around. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. There doesn't ever seem to be anybody available that can make decisions. This is my money and I need to pay my bills!!! It is now Friday, January 28th, and someone is supposed to handle this on Monday....I'm not holding my breath.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Hate to say it but you screwed yourself

My wife and I have both had a number of small businesses and come to the conclusion that taking credit cards is risky for a service type business.
You didn't provide us with dollar amounts for the transactions, but if they were for construction work, I would guess that they were at least 4-figure amounts.
The problem from the credit card processor's standpoint is that you have no previous history with them andyou have only a few transactions buthigh dollar amounts. As you note, you are a high-risk customer. What will happen if just one of your customersdisputes the charge withthe card issuer? If the card issuer agrees with the customer, they charge the amount back to the processor, and the processor charges you. But if the processor no longer has your money he has little chanceof recovering it. He has no reason to pay you until he is certain that the charges will not be disputed.
Credit cards work best for merchants who make a lot of small transactions. Few customers dispute small charges and there is always money in the pipeline to cover sustained disputes.
Persons providing services that routinely cost more than $100 are usually better off not accepting credit cards at all just because they will sooner or later run into the same situation you are now in.
You did yourself no favors by hiding your customers' phone numbers as you have prevented the processor from verifying that the charges were authorized. You made yourself a really-high-risk customer by doing that. The processor is not going to release payment to you now until the time has expired for the customers to dispute the charges. You won't see a dime of it for at least 90 days.
