The Costco warrenty is worthless.  The Costco Tire Centers are a high volume shop provided as a "convenience" to customers.  Costco does not have tire alignment equipment, its not a safe place to buy tires for the family.

I bought a 2002 Toyota Camry new from the dealer, and at around 30,000 replaced the dealer tires with BF Goodrich from Costco in Carlsbad, CA.  The car has only been to the dealer and Costco after oil changes for tire rotations.  The Costco guarantee is for 70,000 miles, however after 50,000 miles 2 tires have 2/32 left and Costco is fighting us on honoring the warrenty.  We're getting cheap tires which wear out 20,000 early, but because its "Costco" it seems good.  Its ok to risk a big screen and if it breaks return it to Costco -- but don't risk your family's safety..

Costco looks like a good deal, perhaps Sears or another place is more honest.

What?

AUTHOR: Josh - (U.S.A.)

Alignment is not something that tire shops should even do, and is only necessary if your suspension got damaged by, say, running into a curb or over large potholes at high speed.  That procedure should be performed at a dealership or an independent mechanic -- NOT a tire shop or an oil change place.

If you did your tire rotations properly, all 4 tires would wear out at exactly the same time.  Since this is not the case, you clearly did not perform tire rotation at the recommended interval.  If the tire wear is due to poor alignment, that would be obvious from the uneven wear pattern -- one side of the tread would be worn more than the other.  In neither case would this sort of thing be covered by warranty, since it is not related to the tire itself.  In any case, the warranty is prorated, so you would only get something like $10 back.
