Ok, I understand that the draw to CricKet has been mostly for those who cannot get a cellular phone in more traditional manners where credit is needed.  But since they have been around for a while, and expanded their service areas, they have been appealing to other groups more and more, due to their competitive pricing.  Thus was the case for me.  I had a current Sprint cellphone which the contract was ending & I decided to go with CricKet because the same unlimited everything at Sprint ($99) was only $50 at CricKet.

I talked and comparison shopped for weeks.  I spoke with CricKet employees.  I should have taken it as a forewarning when numerous CricKet employees testified to having other cell phone carrier, phones/plans!  Duh!

So, I pick out a phone which had excellent ratings online with a variety of user ratings.  I chose my plan...paid for my phone and a cover for it which I should not have.  Another red flag!  He presented the cover as if it were something that came with the phone...asking me which color I preferred, but never once mentioning it cost anything.  When the total was about $15 higher, I asked about such and THEN discovered their sales methods.  Oh well.

So I also am told that I HAVE TO approve the phone insurance plan for at least the initial month.  (WTF?!)  I explained that I had NO DESIRE for such because I was full aware of the "deductibles" and felt the $4.95 a month, plus $50+ deductible was NOT worth it.  To add to that, I am 43 years old and have NEVER ruined, lost, etc a cell phone.  The only reason I ever buy a new phone, is to upgrade.

I ask if I am able to easily return the phone should I need to?  I explain that I have a Cochlear Implant and not all cellular phones work well with such.  It is explained to me that as long as there is 30 minutes or less of talk time on the phones (apparently this amount used to be 60 minutes and they had to lower it!) then the phone could be exchanged.  Another red flag I should have considered, but figured since I was able to try the phone out in the store, combined with I could tell if I could hear on it or not...I would be ok.

Next day, not even 24 hours later...I am back in my CricKet store because my boyfriend is unable to view any photos sent to his cell phone, from mine.  Also, the phone has "froze up" several times already...and did so several times for the CricKet employee.  He cannot figure out the problem to fix it, and figures with the freezing up, it must be a defective phone.  I am told that I have to pay $10 to ship it back to the manufacturer.  (WTF?!)  I have ONE HOUR of talk time...God only knows how much of it the CricKet employee put on it in the hour+ that he was fiddling with it!  (He called a colleague and sent photos back and forth with same)  Ultimately, they tell me that they will credit me the $10 back, but they have no way of waiving such...so I agree reluctantly.  But then they inform me that I will get a RECONDITIONED phone in place of my BRAND SPANKING NEW SHINY ONE, that I bought less than 24 hours earlier and barely touched.  "Reconditioned" is "like new" they tell me.  "Like new" is NOT NEW....and I BOUGHT A NEW PHONE YESTERDAY.

Like other reports I am reading, there is NO WAY to get a LIVE PERSON a CricKets customer service.  NONE.  I tried every trick I could think of...to no avail.

Also, it seems strangely odd that I received multiple calls to my number within the first few hours of having the phone....almost as if they attempt to run up minutes...because minutes ARE rounded UP, and while my plan is UNLIMITED, it sure helps boost that 30 minute warranty rule, no?

So I am now thinking I may just cut my losses where they are now...with a piece of crap phone...and go sign another contract with Sprint.

The thing that makes me most mad...is that, if this is how they treat their new customers...this is how they establish the customer relations in the very first day...then how will I be treated later?  Its almost like they carry the attitude that since it is the "cell service for screw ups, with NO CREDIT CHECKS (they really stress that!)" that they should not treat people with dignity.

Also, I have seen many rebuttals from CricKet where THEY do not manufacture the phone, nor do they set the policies.  Bull.  If you CARRY the phone, then you must be backing it up to a degree.  That would be no different than if my surgeon did not believe in the Cochlear Implant that he was implanting in my head!
