We sent a hard drive to Data Disk to be recovered. We paid $99 just to have the hard disk looked at. The rep made it seem like the price was going to be relativity low to have it repaired. We sent it over right away along with our newly bought external hard drive so they could transfer the data to it.

They called us very quickly and told us it was going to be $1500 +  other charges to have it repaired. We told them that that was way too much money and we'd just like it returned right away. He tried asking us how much we were looking to pay, but we weren't willing to pay anything in that range. We had to pay a $25 shipping fee which was extremely high for a small package going to the close location. This fee was not even mentioned on their site.

Two days after we asked to have it sent back we wrote to them asking where the package was since they are in NY and so are we. We're only 40 miles away. They apologized and said it was going to be shipped that day. We finally received it the next day.

This place is a scam.  They charged us $99 just to look at the hard drive, then when we decided we could afford the high price to get the data back, they made us pay a ridiculous $25 to have to sent back in an untimely manner.

i was scammed too

AUTHOR: Nathan B - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Very unprofessional. I sent in a drive that still works.  I just could not copy of 2 files. Windows complained about CRC errors.  Dataretrieval quoted me $1500 and said there were mechanical problems with the drive.  I know this is not true so I declined the quote.  right away, their rep lowered the quote to $500 and said the work will take 1 month.  Feeling this is a scam, I declined the $500.

This company does not do the work locally. even though they show many location, no one really works there. This company rents a small office or just an address and tried to trick you that they are local.  They trick you by saying they will send a courier to your location to pickup your drive but when you decline their outragous quote, they charge you an arm/leg for shipping the drive back.  Also, they send the drive to canada to be worked on... but they dont tell you this.

Do NOT use dataretrieval.com

AUTHOR: AlexF - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, May 08, 2013

I had a hard drive on my company computer that went bad.  I needed company files recovered very quickly.  I did a search and found dataretrieval.com.  I talked with a rep on the site and described my situation and the data I needed recovered.  I paid the extra $99 to have it looked at quickly and returned in the advertised "7 day turnaround time".  They quoted me a price of $600-$1800 before I sent it in.

So next day mailed it to them and then after they reviewed they drive, they gave me a new price of $2125, more than $300 above the high end of the original quote.  I said that I was not interested and I'd just need it sent back, then all of a sudden, they were able to "pull some strings" and get it back under $1800.  I agreed to the price and paid my first payment of the contract.  So, knowing I'd be paying a total of nearly $2000 with shipping etc, at least I'd be getting my company data back in less than a week.

Nope, fastforward nearly 3 weeks after I paid my deposit.  I had heard a bunch of excuses and finally contacted them asking what the deal was.  My account rep told me there had been some issues and it was going to be a bit longer.  He hadn't been keeping me posted on what was going on unless I emailed him to find out.  So, I wrote him an email explaining the urgency of which I needed my data and how it was holding my company up and that if I didn't have something soon, I'd be cancelling my order and sending it somewhere else.

His response to me was a rude email with explanation points telling me that they hadn't got any data yet.  So I thought, maybe this guy is just a bad account rep.  So I contacted his supervisor, explained the situation and told him what had happened.  The supervisor was polite and told me that this was unacceptable and he'd be keeping an eye on the case for me.

The very next morning I got an email that my data had been recovered.  So I went through the list of files that they had recovered.  They had recovered every single piece of data on the machine except the files that I needed.  I had been very specific with where they were and they hadn't got them.  I told my account rep that these weren't the files I needed and to go back and get the right files.

He was very attentive for a day and a half and shortly after that, he said the tech could see the files and he'd get them.  10 days later, I had heard very little, it was taking them 4-5 days to respond to an email, but he responded.  He said, sorry, it's going to be a little bit longer.  I responded immediately, "have the files to me by the end of the day or send my drive back".  He didn't respond.

The next day I finally called to cancel my order.  It took 7 phone calls before I got ahold of someone who could help.  They kept saying, "sometimes it takes a long time" and "you didn't give a good enough desription".  I said, I don't care, just send me my drive back and give me a refund.  They refused the refund of my deposit and would not even recognize the poor service.  They advertised a 7 day turnaround time and it was 5 1/2 weeks with still no usable data recovered.  Now I'll have to find someone else assuming they send it back in usable condition.

Beware, this company is a joke.

DataRetrieval.com delivers fast and affordable data recovery results and is dedicated to customer service and satisfaction

AUTHOR: DataRetrieval.com - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 24, 2012

DataRetrieval.com takes customer service and satisfaction extremely seriously. We ask that readers of these reports understand that we appreciate the opportunity to address each and every customer's needs and that we are always willing to work towards a successful and equitable resolution for each and every case.

DataRetrieval.com asks that the readers of this site take a moment to consider both sides of these cases. We take customer service and satisfaction so seriously because data recovery should be about more than just a technical process - it should be about crisis management as well.

We understand that for many customers, the loss of their data is an unbelievably stressful catastrophe and that data recovery service is their last chance at recovering invaluable data that could possibly be lost forever.

That's why we have always been committed to doing whatever we can to preserve the trust and integrity of our company name so that everybody from students to small businesses to major corporations can confidently rely on us to provide them the expert, emergency service that their data crisis requires. And we do, for thousands of satisfied customers, nationwide, year after year.

Unfortunately, some of our competitors have chosen to resort to "black hat" tactics, such as those seen here, in order to fraudulently defame our company instead of improving their own business. We are not willing to engage or negotiate with such parties who falsely act under the pretense of "justice", but are actually exploiting/abusing consumer advocacy sites such as this one to serve their own ends.

We sincerely hope that these fraudulent, libelous claims do not dissuade readers from visiting the DataRetrieval.com website or calling (800) 399-7150 and researching our long-standing reputation and record for outstanding customer satisfaction and dependably successful results for themselves. With manufacturer support from virtually every brand and thousands of positive customer testimonials, we've been the industry leading data recovery service expert that you can trust for more than fifteen years now.

To address the issues and concerns raised by customers in the original report:

1. The original customer expressed dissatisfaction with our $99 diagnostic service. The customer could have selected our Free diagnostic service. The difference between the two is that the $99 diagnostic service provides a report in 24 hours or less while the free service provides a report in 3 business days or less. The cost of the diagnostic service is no way associated with, or indicative of, what the cost for the required data recovery service will be (for what service is needed to recover the data can only be known after the diagnostic has been performed). The customer misunderstood this and, for that, we apologize.

2. In order to be cost-effective, data recovery service must be made affordable. We are committed to working with each and every customer to find a cost-effective solution for their data loss crisis. Unfortunately, we were unable to meet this particular customer's budgetary requirements without compromising the service required to successfully recover lost data.

3. Our shipping policies are defined in clear, unmistakable terms on our website and all relevant documentation: we provide free shipping of your media to us for diagnosis, but should you choose to cancel service, then we will make whatever necessary arrangements you require to have your media shipped back to you.

Conclusion: We must respectfully dispute some of the contents of your post. Your strongest allegations/accusations are unfounded and unwarranted. You elected to pay for an expedited diagnostic, you elected not to proceed with service, and your devices were returned to you. We are extremely disappointed to learn that you were dissatisfied with the customer service that you received and are committed to doing anything that we can that could be considered fair and necessary to change that.

We sincerely value your opinion and would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to improve our business. We understand your concerns and would like to assure you that we have, and will continue to, investigate and address them so that we can demonstrate our commitment to professional customer service to you in the future.

Any questions regarding our industry leading service or service policies can be answered by calling and speaking to one of our dedicated customer service representatives at (800) 399-7150.

Our certified, expert data recovery specialist technicians rescue thousands of individual users and major corporations nationwide from critical data loss crises every year by using innovative, proprietary technology and state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities.

My experience would indicate otherwise

AUTHOR: Phramer - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 03, 2012

My experience with dataretrieval.com's "customer service" was nothing short of awful.

True, they did manage to recover my data. But every other interaction with them was terrible.

My damaged drive was with held for 10 days, I was charged for overnight delivery but got the slow boat, and when my drive did arrive, it was in pieces (literally screws rolling around in the casing...no anti static bags) and my 8gbs of RAM were missing. Then when I filed a complaint with the Cleveland BBB (dataretrieval.com is based in Shaker Heights OH), the response from dataretrieval.com contained out and out lies. And I have all the emails to prove it.

The CEO, Dmitry Belkin, finally agreed to return $500 to me but on the condition I remove all my comments from this site.

These people are not to be trusted.

This is for your kind information.

We pleasure in offering our customers superior and accelerated data recovery services and solutions that are priced reasonably. True for some cases the services we provide for recovering data looks to be high on account of the degree of the damage in the media. While a ballpark figure can be given during the initial conversation, it is only after a thorough diagnosis done on the drive that exact price for the data recovery can be quoted based on the cause and severity of the data damage. Customers have the option to opt free diagnostic if they can wait up to 3 days for the diagnosis to be done on their drive and up to 3 weeks for recovery to be done. $99 is for the diagnostic to be done within 24hours and data recovery within 1 week. So diagnostic and data recovery duration can be chosen by customers according to the turnaround time they require.

We clearly mention in our business conversation to every customer that we offer one way shipment free of cost for their convenience. To send back the storage media we provide an option for customers own shipping arrangement. But if they want our company to take care of it we arrange shipping and handling at a cost of $25. As far as return shipment is concerned, customers can choose accordingly to their convenience. DataRetrieval.com always endeavors to make customers happy and satisfied by offering the best possible data recovery services and solutions at reasonable rates for all types of data loss issues.

Thanks

Dataretrieval.com isn't a scam. Their services are RAPID, RELIABLE, & REASONABLE.

AUTHOR: Edwin - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 28, 2011

I refute this baseless complaint against Dataretrieval. The contents have been framed to stain a reputed company that provides a reliable data recovery solutions. I am a testimony to the dependable services from Dataretrieval. My computer hard drive failed to function due to unknown reason. I had little less than 500GB of important office documents along with priceless family photos stored in it. The sad part is that I didn't have backups of any of the data in it. I took the drive to a local computer repair shop who after analyzing the severity of the trouble recommended me to approach Dataretrieval. He also told that the services of Dataretrieval are reasonably priced since I feared about the expense for my data recovery.
I gave a call to the company where one of the rep answered courteously and explained me all about the recovery process. After getting convinced of their dealing that was transparent, i sent my drive for evaluation. They call me back promptly and gave a report that had the details about the cause and cure of the trouble in my drive. I had a budget in my mind, and to my surprise they quoted me just $250 which was far less than what I expected! DataRetrieval recovered all my data successfully and delivered them to me promptly. The turnaround time was fast that I got all my data back before the scheduled duration.

DataRetrieval saved my invaluable data and saved Expense as well. I appreciate their professional service!!!
