I cancelled my Dish service Oct 2011, I had no contract with them, they said I owned the equiptment and did not have to return anything. 11 months later I receive a bill for a month's charges. I call, explain, and am told that my account has been active all this time. I ask why I haven't had a bill in 11 months, they tell me I had a credit. I say.... "I had a credit of $200 and it never showed up on a statement? ($20 x 11 mos)"     They informed me, my account was put on pause,(by who?) and they had been charging me $5 a month. Funny, the bill was for $19.99 not $5.00. That would still mean I had a credit of $55 I never knew about. Then to add injury to insult, they told me the only way to shut off my account was to give them the number on my receiver ( a receiver I gave to recycle months ago) or the credit card I paid my last bill with. This was for... "security" reasons they said, it didn't matter that I was calling them on the landline they had listed on the account and knew every detail of the last bill, address, names, misspellings etc.. They said for security reasons they needed the card or the receiver number. They said they would check the card against past payments. I told them I always paid with EFT through bill pay, I never used a credit card and if I did it would have expired by now and not be the same as the one I have now. I would never give them my CC #, ....they'd just charge me!!  They offered no other solutions, just call back when your ready to give us the box # or CC#.   I telling everyone I know that Dish is a scammer. I'm writting the D.A. the BBB, If you cancelled with Dish months ago you may not be out of the woods.
