*Consumer Comment: Sue them
*Consumer Comment: A few links
I was contacted today 12/20/13 about a debt from 2004. They where sold my debt in 2006 from capital one. They only problem is the debt was paid when capital one took me to court (after already being paid), they garnished all the money in my bank account back in 2005. Now, I still owe $3,797.24.? I'm really pissed and if anyone can give me any information it will be appreciated.

Sue them

If you already paid them in full and they received another judgement, I woud suggest suing them. The FTC has provisions in federal law that will allow you to collect $1000 in damages for each violation. These would include falsifying debt, calling you ($1000 for each call), suing you, and $1000 for each false entry on your credit report. As you can see, your damages could easily amount to more than $10,000!
I NEVER pay debt collectors, as most are dishonest, and are just out to make a commission. Make their job as difficult as possible.

Your report is unclear about time and how you dealt with your debt in the past. Were they fully paid off?
There are some links I searched on the Internet that may give you information. First is on FTC, second is on wikihow, and third is from dummies. Hope this help.
