Fifth Third Bank Lied To Me, Sent Me To Collections, And "forgot" To Close My Account 5/3 Bank sent me to collections, after they told me that they "took care of the fees". Rolling Meadows Illinois

I was a Fifth Third Customer for about 2 years, and I will do absolutely anything in my power to make sure that they get no new customers.

I was moving to Rome, Italy, so I went into the Rolling Meadows Branch to close my account. Months after I moved to Italy, I decided to check and see if my account was actually closed because I had problems with Fifth Third bank in the past and I had a sneaky suspicion that they did not close my account. I was right. My account was still open and acquiring $6.00 fee everyday, which, by the time I had checked it had accumulated to over $200.00.

I called the bank and realized that they had sent me to collections at this point (I was in another country, mind you). I spoke to the 2 managers at this location, who mind you, are still employed there, and they told me that they would take care of these fees. One of them even called me in Rome three times and I quote said, "everything is taken care of."

I return home from Italy and guess what? I keep getting calls from collectors wanting this money from me. Fifth Third bank lied to me, and never "took care" of these charges. I still owe collections $250.00. Since I was back in the states, I went to the bank to talk to the manager about this in person and he completely lied to me and told me that he never said that he was "taking care of this." He even denied calling me in Rome three times.

I asked to speak to a manager that was above him, and he gave me the name of the guy that originally did not close my account. He also told me that he could not possibly have said that he would take care of this fee, since it was sent to collections, and fifth third cannot take care of any fees once they are in collections. So they can send you to collections, but they cannot remove any fees?

Do not bank with Fifth Third! Please, do this not for me, but for yourself. My battle does not end here; I am willing to do whatever it takes to fire these two managers in Rolling Meadows and to get this taken off collections. If anyone has any info they could share with me about this, please do. Good luck to anyone that is currently banking with fifth third bank, as you will need it. Also, I wish you plenty of patience!
