One of the titanium hinges broke on my expensive custom Oliver People's frames and I contacted Frame Fixers to get them fixed since they were experienced with titanium welding. This was in February 2012.
After a week I started calling to get an update on my glasses and the same guy (Cornell Fredericks) always answered. He is an older sounding, slow talking guy that seems to be old fashioned. First they were backed up so he promised to call me back to let me know, then the story was that the glasses had not come back from their repair shop, then the story was that they didn't have my shipping address, then he said that they accidentally shipped them to someone else but they didn't know to whom. During my last conversation I asked that he pay me the insurance settlement (I insured my USPS package for $600 and he claims he did the same).
This went on for months with usually no one answering and when I did get Cornell on the phone he promised to return my call with updates, but only on a handful of occasions he called back. I was always very courteous on the phone since I figured getting testy was not going to help my cause.
For the past month I have not been able to get Cornell on the phone because he no longer answers the phone nor responds to my emails. So there go my $1000 frames...
The problem is that this company or whatever it is, has no physical address. The shipping address on the website is a UPS store. Anyone have additional info so that I call the police on them?

DeWitt police have received 60 additional complaints about a former jewelry store owner accused earlier this month of defrauding his customers.
August F. Cornell, 55, of 202 North Ave., Syracuse, is the former owner of Erie Gem and Watch, 6565 Kinne Road. He was charged April 5 with two counts of grand larceny and one count of scheming to defraud.

I Got My Glasses Back On Saturday!!
AUTHOR: Rob - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, November 11, 2012
Amazing but true. After nearly two months I received my Rayban sunglasses back via USPS Express mail on Saturday. I won't comment on the quality of the repair but I do have them back after having assumed I would never see them again.

How I got my glasses back!
AUTHOR: John Goddard - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, November 10, 2012
Here is how I finally got my glasses back after nearly six months: 1) I called the 463-1295 number listed in another post here and asked for August Cornell. I was told he wasn't there. I asked if I could leave a message. Told again that he wasn't there. I asked if I could leave a message and was finally given his business number 315-491-6931 (FrameFixers). Of course no one answered at the business number. There is obviously a connection between the 463-1295 number and Cornell. 2) I then immediately emailed Cornell at cornellts@clarityconnect.com and said I would be calling the 1295 number regularly until I received my glasses. A few hours later I received an email from Cornell threatening me with telephone harassment If I called that number again. 3) I emailed back and stated that if my glasses were not sent out the following day and if I was not emailed a verifiable tracking number then I would be filing charges with both the Onondaga County Sheriff's Dept. and the Syracuse Police Dept. and providing them with the list of addresses and telephone numbers associated with him which were provided on this forum. Apparently. he doesn't want scrutiny from law enforcement in his life. The next day I received an email with a USPS tracking number and four days later (yesterday) my glasses were home. I had given up on ever seeing my glasses again and thought I'd give it one more shot. This one worked. Good Luck.

Yet Another Frame Fixers Victim

If the Frame Fixer owner name is August "F" Cornell of 202 North Avenue, Syracuse NY, he has quite the colorful history including being accused of grand larceny and scheming to defrauding his customers when (if) he was associated with Erie Gem and Watch in Syracuse in April 2006. If this was the same person. Sounds like a familiar pattern regards an eyeglasses repair operation. Each and every complaint I've read from each source (for Frame Fixer.com) seems to follow the same pattern. The victim calls to make sure it's a real business, receives assurances that a good job will be done on a repair, victim sends in his/her expensive, vintage eyeglasses or sunglasses, gets charged for the repair, receives responses for one or two times and then nothing further. Also, it sounds as though address number 3,4 and 5 are all certainly associated with him. I'll be calling the (315) 463-1295 soon in an attempt to get my vintage Rayban sunglasses returned. As best I can figure out, this is either his mother (probably not) or his sister or sister in law (first name Kathleen) because he's also associated with "Nickolas Cornell" at the same address who appears to have been also associated with the Gem and Watch store (Brother?). August also uses the alias of Frederick Cornell. But the story I received has been the same as everybody else. A delay in getting it back from the plating company, it's still on the repair table waiting for reassembly, you'll have it by next Thursday........ whatever. On one blog it was recounted how the victim would have to sue him and come all the way to New York to appear in court and, basicly, it sucks to be you. According to NY State Department of State Corporations, he was incorporated from Oct 2000 until Jun 2004 and used an address of 313 East Willow St, Syracuse. That appears to be an older office building full of Law Offices but I guess he could have an office there. Probably not. From the Frame Fixer website photos he is probably working out of the basement of the 315-463-1295. I'll bet he gets to see a lot of really expensive vintage eye wear. My particular pair was very dear to my heart. I had them since 1975 and they had been a lot of places with me. But, what's a person to do? Hire a lawyer? $$$$$$. Fly there, file a small claims action? Fly back later for the hearing? $$$$$$ No doubt he knows all of this. What a very lucrative business model. Anyway DMan, I'm glad you were able to get yours back. It sounds like you were the exception and not the rule

I finally got my glasses back!

After 10 months, I finally got my glasses back!! Somehow August found them and shipped them back. The glasses were fixed too, but the repair job looks sloppy with visible solder spots.
I remained courteous until the end and I think that helped. Only at the end I asked to be paid the full restitution amount and then they magically appeared. I never threatened with lawyers, etc.

Apparent this number belongs to Mrs Cornell and Mr Cornell doesn't like people calling her. If you really need to get your glasses back, call Mrs Cornell and leave your phone number with her and Mr August Cornell will return your phone call most likely.

I have also had my property stolen by August Cornell, FrameFixers. I am contacting Robert DeMarco, Senior District Attorney of Onondaga County in hopes of bringing Cornell to justice. Maybe if enough victims do the same we can get our properties returned and put August Cornell behind bars. Here is Mr. DeMarco's email address: RobertDeMarco@ongov.net
