Freedompop is a bait and switch company. They advertise free, then arbitrary charge your credit card for a upgrade that you don't order. When I complained about the additional monthly $10.99 charge they said that it was in error and they would give me a credit. They did issue the credit, but then charged my card for the next two additional months. I complained again and asked to talk to the rep's supervisor to find out why they continued to charge my card when I didn't request upgraded service. Their credit manager came on and offered me 50% of my money back, which I refused to agree to. I wasn't complaining about the $10.99 monthly charge which is a steal for the service they advertise, but to arbitrary upgrade your service and say that you did it and only offer 50% refund is fraud. After many heated words later they agree to refund my $21.98.

Background leading up to the problem above, I ordered my phone in November and received it in February. The service was unusable. The phone would not connect and when it did it had a echo in the background. I could only contact them by email, which took from 2 to 4 day to get a answer, or by phone and wait for 30 minutes just to be disconnected, and having to call again. Their service really pissed me off. When I got through they said my phone was defective and they would send a RMA to get a replacement, which would take 10 days maximum. It took 30 days. When the phone arrived I attempted to get it connected for 2 days and then in desperation I called and waited through their disconnect and recall no service system and after 2 ½ hours got through. Then I was told that my service was canceled for creating a charge back. I told the girl rep that I didn't create the charge back and never had contacted my credit card company. It was Freedompop that charged my card without my permission and they gave me credit after I complained. I told her that the phone never worked from day one in February and paying for free service was not good. I told her that I was a low volume user (under 10 minutes a month) and free was supposed to be free.

She went back to her supervisor and said that this didn't matter. That I hurt their credit rating with my making them give me credit and that I was banned for life from ever using Freedompop service again. I wasn't the type of person they wanted using their service as they couldn't make any money if I didn't upgrade my service. I received another RMA and I returned my phone and they did issue a $80.00 credit in July 2014. Through all this I continued to use Kxxx Cellular at $12.00 a month. I have a 4G Sprint tower within a mile, so it is their phone programing that created connection problems.
