We opened this account to finance a sleep number bed.  Average bed at best.  I sent payments electronically to GE Credit and at first there were no problems.  Then it took them 6 days to process a payment which resulted in a late fee which I didn't notice on my statement.  I never have any late fees on any bills.  The end result was late fees totaling $140.  I reached a compromise with them.  They said they would give me credit for half if I paid the total amount of late fees.  They never did.  They lied.

In order to keep late fees from happening again I startedd making payments long before the due date.  I made a payment that was processed by GE on 03/05/2014 for a due date of 03/28/2014.  They didn't use that as March's payment. Instead they just deducted it from the balance due.  April's payment was processed by them on 04/03/2014 and their system used that as March's payment resulting in a late fee.  Now because of their infliexible billing system, they say I owe $253, $218 regular payment plus $35 late for April's payment.

I attempted to resolve this with online chat.  All their customer service is in India so I am sure you know what I was dealing with.  The agent said she could do nothing.  I have to make anoter April payment with the late fee to avoid another late fee.

I tell ya I am so sick of these people and their underhanded ways.  I don't know whether to contact an attorney or not.  GE should be run through the ringer for their sloppy handling of payments and their mafia style way of assessing late fees.  A class action lawsuit should be in order or an attorney general of a state should run them through the ringer for their nefarious ways.  At the least GE should be publicly chastised for their outsourcing of customer support.

I am open to any suggestions on how to handle this so that GE starts feeling some pain.

A Lawyer?

Yea you should go see a lawyer because perhaps paying them $200/hr will get you to listen to what they have to say.  Of course it would probably be exactly the same thing that I am going to tell you for FREE.

I have no idea how you sent them "electronically", but I can guarantee you that you did not send them through the GE web site.  As if you had you can realize you can specify a specific date and that is the date it is processed.  So if what ever site you used took 6 days to send it to them..perhaps you should write a RipOff report on them.

But that not withstanding.  There is no "noticing" you have a late fee and just missing it.  Every credit card will include the late fee in the Minimum Amount due.  So since you obviously review your statements..you would have seen it.

As for the March 5th payment.  This is considered an OPEN Account.  As such by FEDERAL regulations the payment must be applied in the period it was received in.  If you have a payment due on the 28th, most likely your statement doesn't close until the 7th or so each month.  Meaning that any payment made before the "Closing" date will be applied to that period.  However, again the late fee you incured is 100% your fault.  Because you would have received a statemement for the 3/28 due date that would have shown the payment was applied to the previous period and you still had a Minimum Amount due.

So if you are really open to suggestions, the best one is to really read your statment so you "notice" exactly what you have due.

Oh and no I do not work for this or any other credit card company.

funny.....

Funny how its ALWAYS the companies fault. It NEVER on your end. You as in the consumer. So because their payment system is inflexible, you have the nerve to say this...... I am open to any suggestions on how to handle this so that GE starts feeling some pain.... AWFUL mature of you. Amazing how small your thinking is. Then to add insult to the situation..... At the least GE should be publicly chastised for their outsourcing of customer support..... Exactly who do you think you are that you have a vote as to where and who they hire?? I swear, your sitting there complaining that they outsource to India yet I don't see YOU working at a minimum wage position like that where all you get to do is handle problems and nasty customers. So much easier to condemn them then to do something about it. You know WHY most of these businesses went to places like India?? Because Americans think they are TOO GOOD to work at that type of job. Hence WHY immigrant labor is SO plentiful. THEY do the jobs THAT YOU WONT!!!

So before you get up on your high horse and start your internet campaign against them, maybe YOU should look at ALL of the information BEFORE you start running your mouth. Ok so there were late fees.....GET OVER IT!!! Its not like they are trying to break the bank on you. Did you EVER think beyond your petty little worldview and insert EXTERNAL factors into it?? Was there a banking holiday when you first got your late fees. If the bank was CLOSED then there isn't a monkey to hit the button. Which means that you would get a late fee through NO FAULT of either party. Did you ever consider that they made a request for payment and there wasn't money to cover it?? There are MANY factors that would get you a late fee that doesn't have them doing ANYTHING wrong. Like I said AWFUL mature of you......Maybe next time instead of taking to the web, you MIGHT contact them and ask them HOW can you be getting a late fee when you are paying early?? You know, doing YOUR part as the person who needed the money and they were KIND enough to lend it to you. Your March payment was due 3/28 which means that since YOU paid it early it was put into Februarys billing period. Im guessing youre just not that educated as to business financial structures and its accounting priciples or you would have an understanding. But since you don't, it MUST mean that they are a pack of monsters all because YOU had to pay a late fee. I swear its like a bunch of children.....me,me,me,gimme,gimme,gimme!!

At NO POINT in your post do you take ANY responsibility in this situation. Its a two party system there buddy. YOU had to be late in order for a "LATE FEE" to be leveraged against you. AT NO POINT do you admit any fault. No its MUCH easier to blame them because you MUST be perfect and NEVER make ANY mistakes. Three sides to every story, which side do you think you are telling???
