I am a student at Grand Canyon University; I have had a hard time with my Financial Aide every semester. The first semester I was told that had been accepted and even had my financial aid accepted but never posted. When I called my financial advisor I got no answer; so I emailed the financial advisor still no answer. After several repeat emails I was told that I needed to send in a transcript with my degree posted on it as proof that I had completed graduated. I thought this was a little unusual since I was under the impression that I was already accepted. Nevertheless I had new transcripts sent on then was my financial aide posted to my account. Now that all the little glitches where resolved I had hoped that a new semester would mean smooth interaction with the university.

Unfortunately, a new semester has started and I cannot get a clear reason why my financial aide will not post to my account. I even called the financial aide lender and was told it is the university that has a hold on the funds. However; when I call the university I am told it is the lender that has a hold on the funds. I will admit that the financial advisor number is vastly improved from last semester, as now I am able to talk to someone when I call but the amount of information that is given is still inadequate. It is now the 4th week of the class and I still do not have an answer as to why my account does not show financial aide posted. The university has its advantages unfortunately the drawback far outweigh the advantages that the university offers. It is a shame that the university cannot streamline all of its departments so that the student isnt stuck in limbo with numerous questions and little to no help or answers.

Feeling your pain with GCU

AUTHOR: Dwan - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, November 21, 2009

I too have had issues with GCU!  With 2 classes left and student teaching it seems harder and harder to get things accomplished each semester.  I am to the point of seeking legal representation.  Myself, and others alike who I "recommended" to this university.  I have taught for 3 years and they refuse to take this in lieu of student teaching! I have been auto-dropped from classes, pulled from classes 3 weeks into session...its getting ridiculous and personally I have spent too much money to give up!

Now the University is holding the money

AUTHOR: Unhappy student - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 13, 2009

The only way I get anything accomplish at this university is to file a report on this website. After my last report the funds where placed in my account now the funds are sitting in my account but the university will not issue a refund check. I have called to university a few times and once again I have no answer to my questions. I was told the university hold the funds for 14 days after the funds are received well it have been almost a month. I just don't understand what is going on at the university this term. I can't seem to get anything accomplished in a timely manner when it comes to my account. I like the university but the hassles are just becoming too much to deal with. I would like a straightforward answer to my questions even if the answer is one I won't like it would be better than the run around I am getting now.

Call the lender!!!

AUTHOR: Tarheelgirl08 - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, October 12, 2009

I am a former student of Grand Canyon University, I graduated with a Masters degree in 2007.  I have never had the issues that the person reported.  First of all if you are sending emails and not getting responses, then simply call them.  If the lender is the one that has holds on the funds, then you need to contact the lender.  No university has control over what the lender does.  Find your lender paperwork or ask GCU who your lender is, call them, to see why you have a hold and get it resolved.

Contact someone else

AUTHOR: Desert EMT - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, October 12, 2009

If you can't reach your Finance Counselor, or s/he is unable to answer your question, contact the Finance Manager. All you should have to do is call 1-800-800-9776 and ask to speak with a Finance Manager for the college you belong to (Education, Nursing, Business or Liberal Arts).

If that doesn't work, try writing to the Provost. The squeaky, but polite, approach will usually get you what you want. Explain your frustration and what you're trying to accomplish. It may not happen overnight, but someone will be told to follow-up with you.
