I have owned several Honda/Acura products and was a sales representative for Honda for a couple of years and it's a sad sad day when you face the fact that this once reliable and trouble free piece of machinery no longer carries any luster. I've owned honda products new and used since the 80's and I'm now jumping ship.  Just like the Yen, this Japanese Car manufacturer is on the DECLINE in both quality and reliability.

I have a 2009 Honda CRV out of warranty with less than 100K miles with a number of issues that I'm told are common by the Honda Service Department.  (I use 100K becasue even a Hyundai or Kia stand behind their vehicles that long.) Here are my problems that I'm told are getting more and more common:

A minor complaint that is unHonda like is that the paint on the front plastic bumper peels and is easily peeled (this started in 2011)  I'm not too big on aesthetics for this suv so I didn'tpush the issue of it getting fixed. Now granted the paint on the steel surfaces is still nice and of quality.

The AC system failed and was going to cost me as much as $1500, but I was too broke to pay it so went without for a long while..Now I live in Texas and no AC is Torture.. Honda Finally sent a letter saying it was a RECALL issue and they fixed it for free.

The Door Actuator in the back went bad and buzzes and does not lock. This is a $250 repair by the dealer.

Now here's the Big Problem.  Over a $2000 REPAIR!  The steering system "Rack and Pinion" is leaking and going bad an the service writer tells me this is a COMMON Problem, but not a recall issue.  I'm told this problem has nothing to do with how this vehicle was driven and that they just go bad.

Here's the reason for a Ripoff Report:  Consumers are being sold a "Quality" and "Reliability" based on a name Honda made for themselves in the 80's and 90's.  It's obsurd that they are saying they're the same company when they are using inferior parts.  A steering system going bad in less than 4 years? And the Service writers saying this is COMMON!  The part alone is over $1100.  AC system going bad? Power locks failing. Using pait that peels off the front bumper.

If you're buying a Honda and want to keep it longer than 4 years be sure to save an extra $3000 for repairs.
