In January of 2013 I ordered a parenting program from the Legacy Publishing company based in Westbrook Maine. 

I ordered the program knowing that I had 30 days to review the program and I could send it back for an entire refund, minus the shipping. I received the program in a timely manner and reviewed it for only two days.    

The program was just like a book I already owned and there was no new information for me, which by the websites claims these are "revolutionary" programs to help parenting. They are not. You can get all the same info by signing up for the newsletter but that is neither here nor there. I didn't want to spend $149.00 on a program that wasn't teaching me anything I didn't already know. 

So, I called the customer service number and received a "return authorization number". I was told how to write the return number on the outside of the packaging, which I did and to get delivery confirmation. Which is automatic when you send a package priority mail.  I was also told my credit card would not be charged. 

I packaged the program back up mailed it priority mail back to there return center, which by the way is in Wisconsin. 

 I had the program in my possession for a total of seven days, including a weekend. Mailed it back on January 21 2013 and my delivery confirmation, usps.com, states it was received at 10:46 am on January 25, 2013.

On February 18th, 2013 I received an email from Legacy Publishing stating they were unable to get paid basically from the credit card I had used to order. Thank goodness for that! They don't actually have my money. 

However, I called them to find out why they were trying to charge my account when I sent it back. They told me that evidently the workbook wasn't in the package when it was received. He asked me if I was afraid to send back a workbook that I might have written in. I said I didn't write anything in the book,  I didn't like the program and sent it back after scanning through it finding it useless to me.

He told me that they would need the weight of the package to basically believe me.  I told him I did flat rate, you don't need a "weight" when you do that, and that I had delivery confirmation that it arrived.  He said check my house I may have inadvertently not packed the book. I told him that  I packed it. It is not small you don't inadvertently not pack a workbook and not realize it or run into it in you house within the last few weeks. Hello! He told me they would talk with the "warehouse" where things are returned. They would let me know. Also, they would hold off the $149.00 charge for three weeks while investigating.

I called back and talked with another rep who told me the same thing. I told him i did a thorough search. The book left my house on the 21 of January. He also told me they would contact the warehouse and would find out if the warehouse "lost" it.  I told him if in fact the book didn't arrive, that whatever did happen, happened after it left my house. Which evidently they think they can hold me responsible for. Not happening! They did not tell me I had to insure it. I did exactly what they told me to do to return it. 

I also asked the rep. If the book in fact didn't get returned, why wasn't I notified? No one emailed me or called me to ask me about it. They just started trying to charge my account. No communication about an "incomplete return". Hinky if you ask me. 

So, I started to wonder there has to be some way of knowing whether or not it got damaged or something in the journey to Wisconsin. It just so happens I have a friend in the post office and he told me exactly how to know if there was damage to the package and if something would be missing.

 The post office scans something damaged as it goes through the processing facilities. If something is ripped or torn so badly that items fall out, they scan it damaged and it will show up on the tracking info. So, I pulled up the tracking info and lo and behold no damage scans. What? The item made it all the way to Wisconsin and wasn't damaged? 

I also raise the question. If hypothetically I had the book and found out today that lo and behold they wouldn't hold me accountable for writing in the  book and I could return the book and not be charged, then why wouldn't I do that? It would be a pretty simple thing to do. 

Legacy Publishing has complaints on BBB and Ripoff Reports because they are scam artists and they think they can scare people into forking over whatever, but these are different times my friends. Its companies who should be scared, because their are so many ways to make them miserable. 

Legacy Publishing, let it go. You got that workbook and you aren't getting my money. Suck it up and move on. Its clear that this is a case of trying to scam your customers. Some customers cant be scammed.
