As with any human being my wife an I made a mistake. She wrote a check for $150 for groceries and forgot to put it in her register. in the meantime both of us used our check cards for various needs for a total of about $90 over 10 transactions. while checking our account, I noticed the $150 check go through leaving us with $1.50 available I get paid on Fridays and that day was Tuesday. I called the Bank and asked them to put a hold on the account until Saturday so that I could deposit the funds necessary. They said that was not possible even though it was an honest mistake.

Between Tuesday and Saturday all of the other charges came through and were all returned as insufficient funds each one at a $34 charge. By Saturday our account was negative by $400 I don't get paid enough to cover $400 and be able to feed my family all at the same time. So I could not make a deposit or We'd have no food or gas to get to and from work.

By the following Saturday all of the charges had gone through again and some two more times. Our balance was now negative $850 and being charged an additional fee of $6.00 per day for being in the negative.

I realize we made a mistake as does everyone in this world. but if they had been able to put a temporary hold on our account even for a minimal charge, everything would have worked out. Now our account is negative $1000 and we owe the charges to the individual retailers plus their fees of $25 to $35 each. All for a total of about $90 worth of charges.

Getting charged for making a mistake is one thing, but to be charged all of that in that period of time is rediculous. There needs to be something in provisions to disallow that much being charged over a short period of time. they should have frozen the account before it got out of hand.
