BACKGROUND:

I bought my card at a check cashing location here in PHX AZ over 2 months ago now. I asked all the preliminary questions and everything seemed to be great. Right on the application I checked the 9.95 monthly fee so i didn't get charged per purchase. I also started to have my paycheck directly deposited into this bank account.

THE PROBLEMS BEGIN:
I started checking my account history and noticed i was getting billed $2.00 Per transaction. This was easily adding up to $20.00 a week in fees for purchases i was making at the gas station for cigs or for a soda. I even bought a soda at the store for $1.29 and ended up paying $3.29 for a 20 ounce drink

If they would be able to retrieve my inital application they'd see I did request the 9.95 a month fee. They probably took over 150$ in fees. (RIP-OFF #1)

So, anyway, Xmas came around, and it was a week before Xmas. My daughter, who lives in a different state than I is four and a half years old. And she's the sweetest little girl, i might add. I bought her a LeapFrog Learning game system with some games. I bought it from Amazon. About 4 or 5 days till Xmas, Amazon tells me that they cannot ship the gift until Jan 15th. Of course this is completely unacceptable- a 4 year old does not understand santa being late. So i cancelled the order and made the purchase directly from Leap Frog. All is ok right? WRONG!!

The $114 Purchase has been sitting as Pending since around the 16th of December. I cannot access those funds. I called Customer Support and they said any purchases over $100 can take up to 30 days for the money to come back to my account. The other option is having Amazon Send a FAX with a letterhead statin they will not be collecting the money. So i contacted Amazon and they said they sent the FAX. Guess what, the money is still held. After calling over 10 times, and trying to work as a liason between these two companys, i gave up. Here it is January 17th and my money is still in pending status. (RIP-OFF #2)

So, Just last weekend I went to make a purchase and my card was declined. what the heck right? I got to netspend.com and check my account and it says it has been blocked and to contact the customer support, who are 90% from India I might add. I called them and they said because I did not active the card they sent with my name on it, they suspended my account. I told them I never recieved the card, and all my money is in that account. I have bills to pay. All my money is rapped into that account. Suspending it, takes away my ablity to pay bills and feed myself. I could see if it was just the card, but i have NO WAY to access my money AT ALL. I have emails coming from companies saying payments were rejected, and they are closing services that i have. The customer service for Netspend said they will send me another card but will take 7-10 business days. Thats 2 weeks, without any money. I'm sorry but I need food, heat, a home to live in, car insurance.

This is my money and I want access to it; it is not Netspend's money. I should not be penalized like this and in no way prior was I informed that is was going to take place.

So Guess what, i found my card buried in my uncles bills. I called them and they said that there was a Fraud Block on my account now and that the people were not available to help me until the morning. So i called back the next day and they said there was weather conditions that kept the people who could help me out of the office that day. I was instructed to call back the next day.

So here it is the next day, i have 114$ that hasn't been placed back on my card and i have no access to any money. I can't even get my lunch for work. Let's call them right now and see what happens. I will type word for word what information i get from them.

#18 Consumer Suggestion

Netspend is the best

AUTHOR: Aj - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 02, 2009

You should have verified that you were enrolled in the monthly fee plan. If you check your account only once per week, then maybe at the most you should have had one week of point of sale fees. Once you sign up for the $9.95 unlimited plan, its there for good. I haven't had any problems with this.

The gas charge thing, is very fully explained when you sign up. If you don't want the pre-authorized charge, then go inside and pay the clerk as a debit transaction. I usually pay at the pump. The $55 charge does show up but I can't think of a time where it took more than 48 hours for the charge to finalize and the difference be credited back.

You should check your mail more often. You would be complaining had they not deactivated your account and that mailed card got into the wrong hands. Its a security measure. Debit cards are a way some people launder money, and ever since 9/11 there are a lot of additional security and verification guidelines in place. They are not trying to screw you on purpose.

I have had NO problems with netspend. I love them! Netspend holding funds is nothing compared to bank of america re-arranging debit card purchases to maximize overdraft fees. B of A customer service reps are just trained robot monkeys, in my opinion.

If you don't want to deal with reps in India, you can always walk into a Ace Cash store. They service the netspend accounts there too.

You got to know what you are getting into

AUTHOR: Mgyeldell - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 18, 2008

If you use netspend there is a reason that YOU USE IT. I use netspend because I cant get a bank account from anyone. ANd I really havent had but one problem with them when they didnt want to put my college refund on there because it was over 5000 dollars. but easily got that fixed. if you talk to the people in the office calmly and friendly they eill normally be friendly with you.

I had the troble with the fax and they say two hours but I called them back in a hour and my fax was there and the money was able to be put on my card.

The gas problem is actually a good thing when I used it for the first time I was upset that they took a extra 40 dollars from my card and when I called them they said that the money should be back on in two to three days and if it is not there they would refund you the whole amount. I got the whole amount.

JUST KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO

Its still better than the banks

AUTHOR: Bigtravatx - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 02, 2008

I have had a couple of problems with netspend but they were all fixed in a reasonable amount of time and the people were about a 7 on a 1-10 scale of helpfulness.

Just remember to read all the terms and conditions, and keep up with your account.

Any pain I have with netspend is still better than overdrafts and hidden fees that make a 5$ purchase a 45$ purchase because the bank charged me an overdraft.

I am a Netspend Customer

AUTHOR: Littlepages - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 27, 2008

I have been using Netspend for about 3 years now and I do not have any problems with them. There are no "hidden" fees. It is like anything else. There is a lot of "small print". If you read all the small print, you will see that they do list all of their fees. I also ordered the $9.95 per month service and I have never had a problem with it. I have never spoken with anyone outside of the country when I had an issue either. They are all in Austin Texas. I had someone on the internet get a hold of my credit card information and they were charging things on my account. I came strait home and cancelled my card. I spoke with someone and they sent me a new card immediately. They were polite and very helpful. I wasn't on hold for very long either.

It is a reality nowadays that no matter where you call, you will be put on hold from time to time. I will be one of the first ones to confess that if I get a call at work for someone who is being demanding or just not being nice, they will always hold longer than someone who is nice. I have no problems with this company or the fees they charge. It is like any other agreement, you must read everything. An educated consumer is a smart consumer. No one is going to educate us, so we must educate ourselves and not blame the corporations for the fact that most of us are just in too much of a hurry to read what we are signing.

Same thing happened to me

AUTHOR: Daryl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 24, 2007

I have the pending charge problem. MOst banks release funds from pending charge if the merchant has not collected them within five days. That you will find with all financial institutions. NETSPEND takes 30 days to release funds. So your money basically is in limbo. If you do get bold with them and don't take no for and answer, they will accept verbal authorization from the bank or merchant that they are not collecting the money, and sometimes they will release the funds. They did that twice for me. Right now it is a third time they have pending charges and they didn't release the funds. Got the same run around, need a fax letter on company letterhead stating they will not collect the money. So now I will chop up my netspend card and notify cashland of the incidents. Netspend also reflects on the companies that peddle this worthless card, so maybe cashland, with enough complaints, will no longer use netspend. I've actually seen one place do that.

#7 REBUTTAL Owner of company

AUTHOR: Kathy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 07, 2007

Netspend isnt really a ripoff company,i have worked for them many years and even with its up and downs i still believe this is the best company i have worked for ( i have 4 years of experience as a customer service)

I believe that if the terms and conditions are read most of this situations can be avoided.

Mr Nathan:
-if you chose to have the 9.95 monthly fee you shouldnt be charge for transaction fees,if you were charged most likely the service wasnt activated, did you verify the service was activated?

-About the Amazon transaction, when a transaction is cancelled by the merchant Netspend requires documents from the company authorizing the release of the transaction because i.e: it was cancelled, double charged, etc, and this is because if Amazon collects the transaction Netspend has a written notice from the company and we can dispute the charges easily
-this could have been easily avoided if the card with your name would have been activated

Noneya:
About the gas preauthorizations, this isnt a Netspend policy but it IS explained on the terms and conditions

This is an agreement made with gas stations, when you use a prepaid card at the pump the gas station has to make sure your card has enough funds and puts a preauthorization for $55 up to $100, the difference is later released to your card after the gas station has collected their total funds, nor netspend or the gas station has any intention WHATSOEVER to keep those funds, i am sorry you feel that way...but this can be easily avoided if the terms and conditions are read. SIMPLE

here is a link for the terms and conditions

https://www.netspend.com/account/faq.m

i do understand and agree the problem about the faxes,so far i would say this is a major area of opportunity

any question, let me know

I don't recommend using your Netspend card online at all!!!

AUTHOR: Brandy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 01, 2007

I have a rip off report for Netspend also and had the exact same problem!! All of my money that I had was on my card and all of the sudden I go online to check my balance and it said that there was a problem with my account. I called Netspend to ask what the problem was and they said that my card was blocked because of a purchase that I made through Ebay and PayPal. I don't recommend using your Netspend card online at all!!! I asked why and wasn't given an explanation and I was asked to fax in a copy of my id and social security card.

I got the number and faxed them the info for $3 at the check cashing plus the coppies. I called them and they never got it and so I faxed it again, I called and they never got it and I was told to put the referance number on it to make sure it gets to the right department. Why didn't they tell me this in the first place?? I faxed it in again and they didn't get it. I called in and I told them that i just spend a lot of money and time faxing them the info and am very upset. They tranfered me to an english speaking rep, FINALLY!! He said to fax it now and that he would wait for it and to call back 15 minutes after I fax it and he would run and get it. I hung up but then realized what if he wasn't the rep that answered the phone next time.

Anyway I faxed it one more time and I called back and an indian guy answered the phone and I told him my story and he said that it would take 2 hours for the fax to get there but he transferred me anyway. I believe I got the same american guy and he out me on hold to go and look for the fax. Thank God, he found it and said that my account would be immediately activated.

So the indian guy was wrong and it didn't take 2 hours for the fax to get there. I guarantee if I would have waited 2 hours that they would have thrown my fax away again, I had to call right after the fax was made after several attempts of them losing it. Anyway my card is now activated but I have not used it since this happened and I do not keep any money with them because if they block your card you will be out of money. I take this as a lesson learned and will just keep a regular bank account.

I understand 100%

AUTHOR: Noneya - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 20, 2007

I fully understand your situation!!! As I have said before, Netspend is one big ripoff and they know it. I have contacted the Attorney General to place a report along with reporting them on here. Hopefully consumers will come here FIRST to read all of our complaints and will then make up their mind whether or not they wish to do business with a company like Netspend.

Legitimate companies do not like having this type of reputation but since Netspend is a bunch of hustlers and theives, they dont care. I am a small business owner myself & couldnt imagine having my business on a website like this and if I did, I would rebuttle, apologize and try to fix it. Again, Netspend doesnt care. Most legitimate companies pride themselves on customer satisfaction but again keyword is "most".

I faxed Netspend a copy of my contract twice to show them my contract makes NO mention of holding $55.00 for paying for gas at the pump. I purchased $10.00 worth of gas, they took $55.00 & are telling me "oh well, too bad" & they will fix it eventually. I am not in breach of my contract, they are.If you ever try contacting them try asking for a Miss Selena Sierra, oh she is the worst.

You will be on hold for the first 12 minutes, then a recording will come back on telling u that the hold time is 18 minutes and then she will pick up, "listen" for atmosphere on the phone in hopes that u gave up and hung up and when u speak and say "Oh, Im still here, In didnt hang up and not going to" she will then say "hold please" and another 30 minutes will go by. When she picks up again and make it known that u are not going anywhere, she SLAMS the phone down for u to hear it. She doesnt even disconnect the phone in a manner to make it appear as if you two just got disconnected!!! She actually slams the phone down so u can know she heard you, but just doesnt wish to address the issue. This is because your call was pre-screened by a regular rep (Who doesnt speak very good english) and when they tell her your situation, she knows that she isnt going to help you and is to much of a high powered coward to address it, so she hangs up.

So what I have now done is I typed up over 300 flyers, printed them out fully detailing my experiences with Netspend and we went to local strip malls placing these flyers in peoples parked cars windshield wipers. I told them on the phone that I planned on doing this and I was told that I could be sued for slander. Lmao. Like I am worried about that. This isnt slander, its all 100% truth and fact. How dare them make me out to be the bad guy.

This is a company who screws u around, steals your money, puts u in bad situations and dont want to address it and then they have the audacity to make threats about slander. Ha! You gotta be kidding me. I am going to be diligent and relentless when it comes to this company.

I am making it my personal business to make sure as many people as possible can learn about this company before hand. There is nothing Netspend can do about it. Oh, but I was told that they would keep the rest of my money if I "kept this behavior up". Can u beleive it! Like I have a certain way I need to "behave" or they will stick me in the corner, like Im a bad kid.

At some point, there will be repercussions for Netspend...sooner or later this will catch up with them. My advice to them people who work for them, SEEK NEW JOBS BECAUSE U WONT HAVE ONE COME 2010!! THEY WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS!! I cant beleive that VISA allows them to carry their name. I will be receiving a call from VISA regarding this. I called VISA earlier today letting them know that Netspend is making their name look bad. Naturally, the person I spoke with was just a regular rep, but she took down my info and said a supervisor would call me back and gave me Corporates info with a name for me to call on Monday.

Perhaps VISA isnt aware that the company (Netspend) they "allow" to carry their name is hustlers and theives.

Requested why i was mis-informed by Gabrial that the group who dealt with this issue was in the office and they were not. Erin stated that they were in earlier but left early because of bad weather. He did check my card and said reassuringly to call back in tomorrow and your card WILL be activated and block WILL be lifed. We shall See.

that Rebbeca is not saying are not in or available due to bad weather. So which is it?
