To whom it may concern:
I am a small business owner in San Rafael Ca, ( West End Cafe 1131 4th Street San Rafael Ca 94901).

I was contacted by what seems to a legitimate company offered me gift cards, during negotiations and deciding on the design of the card, they took attention away from what I was signing, it turned out to be 4 year contract titled "non-cancelable lease".Shortly after the conpany went out of business. Mean while I was stuck with the lease.

This lease is for a verifone credit card machine, I was told that I need a separate CC machine plugged into a telephone line in order for this process to work. The worth of this verifone CC Machine according to Northern Leasing Systems, Inc. is $467.00.

The lease amount is $97.87 per month for 48 months, part of the monthly fee is $2.50 penalty for not carrying a separate insurance policy, should the machine gets damaged.

Included in the monthly fee the local applicable sales tax which brings the original lease amount to $89.95.
What caught my attention is a letter I received from Northern Leasing telling me that $67.57 will be deducted from my account for the personal property tax which they will pay on my behalf, $25.00 of which will be filing fee. I did not think this was right; I called the Marin County Tax Collector; they could not verify receipt of the payments. Nor could Northern Leasing Systems, Inc. provide proof of the payment for the personal property tax.

What I found out from the county is that the tax rate is 1% based on a value of $479.37 tax amount due is $4.80 (where did the $32.77 go)? Every time I called them they did not have any proof or justification, I made two trips to the county assessors office without being able to get any proof of payment. The personnel at Northern Leasing System, Inc. are rude, unprofessional, every time I request to speak to a manager, they tell me my case does not require talking to manager, and then they hang up on me. The difference between the actual tax of $4.79 and the $37.57 you claim it to be is fraud, and the non-paynent of the tax is another fraud, given the $25.00 filing fee that is requires under their lease.
