My daughter signed up on "MySpace.com" in June to locate a few high school friends. She had tried to remove her page and couldn't do so. She did contact the cons at MySpace and they did something to remove her e-mail address, but left her page up! Everyone can see her photo, which is what she doesn't want! ...and before you go questioning the photo, it's not revealing, not disgusting and nothing that any parent would be upset to see.
We have both made NUMEROUS attempts to contact this fraud of a company both by e-mail and telephone. E-mails go unanswered and phone calls were a complete waste of my time. No matter what time of day you are calling, you CANNOT speak to anyone. I have tried every prompt there was at their number: 310-917-4920 each one giving a recording that they are unavailable, but then you can't leave a message! The one voicemail I was able to leave a message was for sales and that went unanswered!
A certified letter will be issued to them this week, notifying them of an impending lawsuit to their practices.
PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR CHILDREN! DO NOT WELCOME MYSPACE.COM into your computer or lives!

Corporate phone/fax

MySpace corporate numbers (in california)
Customer service:310-969-7400
Fax: 310-394-4180
Be firm - your gonna have to explain the situation calmly. You need to get thru to someone in their tech support area to have the account shut down and deleted.
We spent about 15 minutes on the phone.
If they won't do it - write a letter and FAX it to them! then follow up with a certified, return receipt requested, letter.

Phone number?

Robert,
I have tried to call, but continuously get voice mails that I cannot leave a message on.
I'm glad that your fiance was able to correct her situation and I thank you for validating one of the problems with myspace.

Call MySpace.com

My fiance had a similar problem - she took my advice and the page was gone within 2 hours.
YOU - the mother - call myspace.com via telephone. Explain to them that you're the Mother and that you want your MINOR child webpage permanantly deleted immediately. Further, state that she is not to have a myspace account as long as she's a minor and resides in YOUR HOUSE using YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION.
MySpace deleted her son's webpage and ACCOUNT within 2 hours!
Good Luck!

This is funny. Your daughter shouldn't have made a myspace, yet alone post a picture. Good choices my friend.

#5 Consumer Suggestion
Delete the photo yourself

In addition to the other suggestions mentioned, your daughter can log into her account, go to edit/upload photos, and there is a button to delete pictures. I enjoy myspace, as a 30 year old I have reconnected with a lot of long lost friends. Since it is a free service, you are not out any money, so it can't be a ripoff. I do know that it IS possible to delete your own account as well.

#4 Consumer Suggestion
Put her page on private

She can have her page set on private. That way only her friends can view the page.
I don't understand why it is so difficult to cancel her account. I had no trouble doing it. You cancel on their web site, then you would receive a confirmation email for you to confirm the cancellation, then that's it.

You do not have a case!

I do not work for MySpace, I do not like MySpace. What I am posting below is common sense.
What did your daughter do to close her account? If her page is still up, obviously, she did not close the account properly. Has she tried logging back in to the site? This is not rocket science.
Why does she suddenly not want her picture up anymore? Why didn't she take the pictures down BEFORE closing her account? Again, this is common sense for anybody who knows how to use the Internet.
In any event, NOTHING THAT APPEARS ON THE INTERNET AT ONE POINT IN TIME IS PERMANENTLY DELETEABLE. Your daughter needs to take responsibility for her actions and acknowledge that ONCE something is on the Internet, it is ALWAYS on the Internet, and harassing phone calls to MySpace, law suits, etc., none of that is going to get her picture permanently off of cyberspace. It may not be accessible as easily, but it will ALWAYS be floating around out there somehwere on SOMEBODY'S network.
Before you go calling a bunch of nerdy computer programmers "cons", and in lieu of hiring a lawyer, perhaps you need to buy your daughter a copy of "Internet for Dummies". It's NOT that difficult to delete a MySpace account, but it is next to impossible to permanently delete something from the WWW. You do not have a case.
