$ 1,700.00 Repair quote for something that is fully Functional !

We have (had) a maintainance service program for our a/c unit with Orangutan. When temperatures started to reach record highs in June 2016 our a/c gave up. We instantly shut it down to as we had been told to do. My wife called Orangutan and set up an appointment. Before anyone came we changed the filter and when the service guy arrived we told him the that the filter had just been changed. He then noticed a block of ice had built up on the “coils.” He checked the “freon” and nothing had leaked. Then he told us it’s worse than I previously thought it’s the “restricted indoor TXV” that has is broke and the good news is that it’s covered by the 10 year guarantee.

Then he went down to his car and when he returned he presented a quote as to what they could do about it if we need an a/c when outdoor temp is hoovering around 110 degrees…  it will cost you $ 1,689.00 !!!

A TOTAL OF $ 1,689.00 WHAT ? What about the guarantee ????

“Well the guarantee is only for the part (in this case $ 200) not for labor and to replace all “freon” was the simple answer.

An hour later a contractor friend told us to turn the a/c ON again. It will cause no danger to the a/c.

So we did and it worked perfectly… all we needed was a new filter that we had already put in before Orangutang arrived.

We instantly called Orangutan and they told us that the “Restricted Indoor TXV” had to be replaced but now they suddenly could do it for half…. $ 844.50

We called another a/c company that came out and after a brief check of our a/c unit they came to the conclusion that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, with the “Restricted Indoor TXV” or anything else. All we needed to do was to replace the filter… a filter that costs about $ 5, a filter that we had already changed before the Orangutan service guy started to fiddle with our a/c

That is how Orangutang works by taking advantage of their customers lack of knowledge of a/c’s. Taking advantage when you are in desperate need of a functioning a/c when it’s 110 degrees outside and “create” expensive repairs that isn’t needed. Think about that every time you see a van with the name Orangutan written on it’s side.

In other words, it’s called attempted fraud !

Read other reviws and anyone will notice that it’s not the first time.
