I went to the local pep boys,on April 29,2006 for a routine oil change. The store suppervisor told me it oould take two and a half hours to do the oil change on my car, at first that seemed pretty long but I it really needed to be done.

So I come back after two hours hoping my cars done. When I go in to check on the status of the car the service manager David Strow told me it was already done, so I paid. When I went out to look for my car they informed me that it was parked on the opposite side of the store.

As I walk up to my car I notice the front bumper is only attached to the left side of the car. The other side was laying on the ground. So I go back inside the store to tell the manager what had happened. He came to look at the car after blowing off another customer who had been waiting a while.

When David Strow came to look at the car he told me it would take all day for them to fix the car, at this time I was beyond pissed, I had other plans for the day besides wait for my car to be fixed. Then David also went on to tell me that there was already damage done to the front end of the car.

Finally, they put my car back on the rack, the original cause for my bumper being riped off.(my car is lowered four inches all the way around) They decided that fixing my car ment putting a screw in the front bumper and messing up the bumper even more.

Then when David heard my dad was coming down to help me deal with this problem, he decided to leave the store and tried to give my keys to someone who was not the owner of the car.

After three weeks of making many long distant phone calls and dealing with idiots on the phone, they finally sent me a check for $635.00, however the damages done amounts to $783.00. After calling corporate again telling them the damages couldn't be fixed for that price, they told me to sue them, I think thats what I'll have to do.

David try to learn just a few PR skills

AUTHOR: Wally - (Australia)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 16, 2006

This is an historic moment. I totally agree with Marc and Robert!!

I fail to see how where a person lives makes them any less of a customer. David you were happy to take the OPs money but because they live in a trailer they don't deserve to be compensated for YOUR MISTAKE???? Your rebuttal is a classic example of how not to run a business but you already know that. A little humility goes a long way and if you are seeking approval from the rest of we business people you have failed dismally by your arrogance.

David you are a putz!!

I would normally have probably sided with Pep Boys in this case, however, noting the tone and the underhanded comment about the OP's living conditions tells me that David has about as much class as an empty school.

David, were I your corporate PR person, I'd have you flogged at noon and then discharged and your last paycheck sent to the "trailer they call home". Sometimes people can't help their circumstances, but that does not give you the right to make judgement calls.

For all you know, the brother or father or someone else close to the OP has a million car fleet that now wouldn't set foot in a Pep Boys if it was the last autoparts place on the planet.

I Agree With Mike

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

Pep Boys should not have even attempted to work on a car that was so significantly lowered or should have asked for a damage waiver.

Just recently I took my 95 Mustang GT for a NYS inspection. The car has been modified and lowered (but not 4 inches). The service station was recommended by a friend. I dropped the car off at 1PM and got a call at 2PM that they could not do the inspection because they were afraid of damaging it while putting it on the lift. Although I know it can be safely put on a lift, I appreciated their honesty for not trying to do it when they were not sure. I took the car elsewhere, got it inspected but you can be sure this station will get some business from my other cars because of this.

Why anyone in their right mind would take a vehicle that was so significantly lowered to Pep Boys is beyond me! They are not well known for having crackerjack mechanics.

I agree with Marc that they made a mistake to even touch that car. But since they did, they are responsible.

Hey guys, if you're gonna do oil changes on lowriders,

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 16, 2006

get a Jabsco 17860-0012 and pull the oil out through the oil dipstick hole so you don't hafta use your car lift. See Wast Marine.

Utilizing a Jabsco is a specialized precision process so a service surcharge may be required. Ummm... maybe $50?

The Jabsco 17860-0012 is used to change oil in power boat engines 'cuz boats, unlike cars, don't have any holes in their bottoms. At least the boats THAT FLOAT don't have any holes in their bottoms.

David, you need to have them sign a waiver.

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 15, 2006

If a customer brings a car to me or wants one towed that is lower than stock he'll either sign a damage waiver beforehand or he'll have to call someone else. If this car was lowered 4" that means it only has an inch or two clearance and can't even be jacked or or put on a lift without damage, and is most likely illegal to boot. And forget about the rims and tires. I won't work on a backyard hooptie because they are always trouble. Wooden blocks for springs, cut-off coils, s**t-can mufflers, etc, yet they expect you to work on their POS and be liable. Not me. Let them go to the same bodinky that did the mods.

Insurance Adjustor Sent

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 21, 2006

An indepentant adjustor was assigned to the case and sent to the trailer this family calls home. The lowered 95 Honda Accord was at the location. The adjuster, not an employee on Pep Boys assigned the amount and a check was issued. The customer has recieved adaquate compensation for the possible damage caused.

I am sure the consumer has been paid for damage that was not even done by Pep Boys. The vehicle is held together with bubble gum and spit. Getting the amount you have is more than generous and I hope you put it toward a home you dont hook up to a truck.
Their car is not even worth $783.00

Pep boys sent me a useless check

AUTHOR: Amber - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 24, 2006

I recieved a check from Pep boys for less than the amount of the damage done to the car. However, the biggest problem with the check is no one signed it. The check was also post dated which is illegal in the state of California. Now I sueing them for $5,000.00 because they refuse to return my phone calls about the bad check.
