This all begain on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. On this day I arrived at Public Storage in the city of Westminster, to check on my property. When I attempted to unlock the disc lock, I realized that the key would not fit. After notifying an attendant, whom I later found out was the regional manager, "Vince", offered to help. I then gave him permission to break the lock off of the door and when completed, we opened the door to discover that my rental unit had been ransacked and several valuable items were taken.

Apparently, the burglars changed out my original disc lock that I had purchased back in 2008 and replaced it with a similar looking disc lock. After the police were called and a report was taken, I then notified Public Storages' insurance company. The next day, I received a phone call from a representative of Willis insurance who stated that my claim was denied because there were no signs of forced entry.

I was extremely angry upon hearing this and told the representative that she was premature in making a decision prior to the police completing their investigation. She stated that if there was any other information relative to the break in that I felt would help my claim, then I could send it to them and they would re-open the claim.

As it turns out, this particular Public Storage facility has had at least 10 plus burglaries within the last month and a half. I also realized that my particular door did not have a metal cover with a latch that  all the other rental units had. This metal cover provides an extra level of security to the lock. "Vince" did ask me if I wanted the metal cover put on and that there was no charge to the renter. I declined stating that it was too little too late.

I believe that I had a reasonable expectation to be as secure as all of the other renters within this Public Storage facility. I believe that Public Storage was negligent.
