This company sent me a letter stating I owed them $71.61 from long distance service I was suppose to have with Sprint. I never had service with Sprint. I called and ask them to send em some type of proof to show me of this debt it was dated back in 1991 this debit was 16 years old. Also I was 16 at the time so what would I be doing with long distance service from Sprint?

I called and tried to tell the CSR this information they told me they would get back with me in 3-5 days they call me back and stated they was sorry for this collection but its in my name and I needed to pay it no matter the age or time the account was active.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Kris, Debt Collectors are NOT "CSR"'s!!

Kris,

Debt collectors are NOT customer service! They could care less if the account is not yours or if the amount is wrong, etc. They only have one mission. To separate you from your money. And, they will not give up until you pay them, or shut them down with the appropriate written notice.

These punks at AFNI are JUNK DEBT BUYERS. They buy this type of very old account for far less than a penny on the dollar. These debts are almost always past SOL for legal collections so they cannot be legally collected through the courts, etc. And they know it.

They are just hoping that you are stupid, and will make even a small payment which would validate the debt and reset the SOL, making the debt legally collectable.

This is why you NEVER call, or speak to ANY debt collector on the phone. NEVER! It will never do anything positive for you and will in almost every case make things worse.

When they buy these old, legally uncollectable accounts, they have little or no information on the actual debtor. This is why everyone with the same or similar name gets the collection letters and phone calls. They are just fishing, hoping to get lucky.

This is why they are called BOTTOMFEEDERS.

I would just laugh this one off. There is no way they would take legal action on an account for less than a $100. Not even the punks at AFNI would be dumb enough to do that. And, they probably don't have the $48 it costs to file the suit. They spent it on crack.
