I recently booked a cruise for september 9th directly through royal caribbean.

it was during what I thought was a limited time sale, they even sent notice of when it would start and end.

I thought it was a great time to do, with the great sale and all.

So I booked and paid in full in june, all over the site they advertise best price guarantee, fine print 48 hours?

they do allow refunds and price drops for customers who havent made their final payments yet. but I cant?

so when I booked it was pay for a interior stateroom and get free upgrade to large ocean view room.

what I got was what they call a guarantee room, which means you are guaranteed a room in that category, but can be anywhere on the ship in that category. I was never offered the option when booking to select my cabin choice and the pricing was all the same, guarantee or not.

Now 2 weeks before the cruise they have lowered the price by 200, for the same that I purchased during the advertised sale. so I have now overpaid by 200, the state room they gave me is the lowest possible in the category, no windows, 2 lil port holes, although there was other rooms asigned in same category on deck 7,8,4,3,2 they gave me deck 2, very front of ship.

I feel this is a unfair practice of deceptive sales, how is it a sale? when they discount it like the clearance rack at a low end department store.

I phoned Royal caribbean about this, they said no refund of diff, no on board credit of diff and no upgrades.

they did move me back a few rooms so I had a window, gee thanks

horrible customer service, pricing rip off during a supposed sale and I am a crown and anchor member who has sailed with them in the past.

Basically I paid for someone elses cruise and now dont even want to go on the one I paid for.

Price Gouging?

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, August 27, 2013

You know here is some advise for you in the future.  If you are going to accuse a company of something..you probably should at least look up the definition of what you are accusing them of..so you don't come off as an idiot when you are wrong.  Because this is about as far away from price gouging as you can get..in fact you probably would have been closer by calling this a rock.

Is being charged $15/gallon for gas with a hurricane heading your way price gouging..yep.

Is being charged 10 times the normal price for a 100 square foot tarp after the hurricane went through price gouging..yep

Is being charged $2500 for a generator that was $500 just hours before price gouging..yep.

Is paying for a fare with a free upgrade offer only to have the cabin discounted 2 weeks before the cruise price gouging..NO.

The fact is that you booked an interior cabin(the cheapest class) for a price that at the time you felt was agreeable to you.  Part of this fare they offered you a "free upgrade".  Now there are a few things about this.

First of all generally things such as these low fare guarantees don't apply once you add in other offers such as cabin credits or upgrades.  Next, you generally don't get an upgrade to your choice..you get it where they give you.  But with all of this you call up and complain and say they did nothing.  Oh really..so what do you call moving you back to get a bigger window.  I guess you would have prefered them to do something and just leave you in the original cabin?

If there are cabins on a cruise that are not filling up..EVERY cruise line will discount them.   The fact is that there are limits and conditions on every price match guarantee.

If you still think this is Price Gouging answer this question.  You go to a store that has a 30 Day "Price Guarantee" and buy a $20 shirt that was originally $25.  Now, 45 days later this shirt is now on sale(not clerance) for $12.   You go to them to try and give you an $8 credit.  If they refuse are you going to write a RipOff report on them for Price Gouging?
