warning anyone from believing SquareTrade's advertising. Bought their protection for an eBay purchase. A few months later had to file a claim.

10/25/17 - they wrote - "Thanks so much for your patience. After a close inspection of your item, we've determined that a repair is not possible. A reimbursement for your item will be sent to you by check. Please allow 7-10 business days for checks and American Express Gift Cards to arrive."

waited for a month - NOTHING

11/20 - contacted them and within a few days they replied -
"we have voided the check with check#9037791.Another check has been processed and you should be receiving it within the next 7-10 business days from now. Kindly confirm as and when you receive it."

12/04 - got a check ... finally. Cashed it only to be charged a fee by my bank for cashing a cancelled check.
YES - this was the 1st check - having arrived 2 weeks after their last communication I assumed it was the 2nd check - my fault but given it took USPS about a week to deliver - it means they HAVEN'T EVEN SENT IT TO ME at the time they already cancelled it

12/11 - contacted them again to inquire about the check not coming in (their promised 2nd check) and asking if they would reimburse the bounced-check fee (which hoped they will but didn't hold them to it)

12/18 - they replied "We were reviewing your case and came to know that you already lost your check. Therefore once you called us and told about the check being lost we voided it and sent a new one. As the check was voided on your request unfortunately we won't be able to reimburse the bank fee charged. Feel free to reach us anytime in case of any queries and concerns."

No word on the original check and nothing on the way...
it is 1/1/2018 - and nothing - my $137 approved claim check is not here.

It smells like the typical insurance company trick of not paying out knowing many would not have the time to chase you and hold company  accountable.

I have provided SquareTrade as I'm willing to provide ripoff report with all email exchanges (case/claim) and my bank statement and letter showing the penalty was due to their bounced check (again I bear part of the blame for being penalized, but at the least - send me a new one for the amount of the approved claim)

Also, Why does this company claim it takes them 7 days to get a check to you if clearly (2 times in a row!!!!!) it takes a month and more.... ?

tactics, or strategy?
