It all started on march 5 of 06. had altenater installed in daughters car (bad bearing in pully). leave daughter there with money to pay for qouted repiar bill. 4 hours later she calls said that there is xtra charge of 15.00 for a obstruction and need more money. gave credit card # over phone for payment.

daughter arives home with car making a grinding noise it was the altenater. the mounting bolts had not been istalled corectly and the loose pully was grinding on the support bracket. called (jerry manager of the branch) he said sorry please bring back and they would fix.

next day daughter waits 3 hrs and for car to be repaired. 2 months later car dies have towed to shop paid 135.00 + towing bill to find that altenater is bad. i call startmart and speak with jerry (manager) says to bring in and they will replace altenater (parts covered but not labor). so i pay another 62.35 for labor. 26 days later same problem car dies have towed to another shop. its the altenater

called startmart this time jim ansewers phone and says bring in well fix for free becuse the last work had been done within 30 days. he explains that they have a high turn over and that its hard to find good help. he check his stock and says he has brand new altenater that he going to install today but could we leave car for about 2- hours. this is friday morning jan 2 07 drop car off. call shop around 4:30 that afternoon. no answer so we drove to shop to find they were closed during regular hours and our car had not been worked on.

called saturday morning to here that they needed new parts and would be ready around noon and jim would call us when the car was ready. 5:30pm came around. no call from jim. went to shop. car still hadn't moved from were we parked it the day before. didn't receive call on sunday either from jim or any body from startmart

called monday morning jan 5th to speak with jerry ( manager) and i am told that there waiting for parts. i expained to him that JIM said friday that they had the parts and that it would take 2- hours to repair. jerry tells me monday that theres no employee named jim that works there.

monday had car towed from startmart to a new repiar shop and payed 139.53 for a altenater with liftime warranty on parts and labor. startmart cost me 782.00 just in towing not to include paying them for a altenater and 3 labor charges only have to go top another shop and have it fixed right. Upon further resurch of STARTMART i find that they advertize that they own sevral location with phisical adresses and phone numbers that don't realy even exist and when you call any of there locations you get the same place in lynnwood wa.

I've seen a couple of cases where shops installed the wrong amperage-sized alternator and they didn't last long.

I don't think they were even aware of what they did, as I doubt they match the viin numbers when changing out parts, although in your case it looks like either the pulley wasn't installed correctly or perhaps a spacer was in the wrong place.
