The Hartford insurance company charges service fee just for sending th invoice. Hartford, Connecticut
*Consumer Comment: Cost of doing business
I am a business owner who has a policy with The Hartford insurance company. I was shockd to learn about their practice of charging service fee just to receive an invoice from them. The service fee is $6.00. This is outrageous. The bill was not even due. I can understand if the company charges a late fee.Thispractice is unfair. Why doesn't all states enact legislation to ban companies from charging service fee for mailng a statement ?
I wonder how they will treat the policy holder when there is an actual claim !

I know this post is old but i had to reply. The service fee is not a rip-off. AARP insurance program offers several payment options unlike alot of other companies out there. If you want to avoid the fee then pay the policy in full.. if you can't then you can set up an automatic paymt thru your checking acct and that has no fees if you are on the aarp plan. The fee is charged because of the cost of servicing the acct. It would not be fair to charge you no fees like client A who pays in full and you spread your paymts out mthly. You are lucky you have other pymt options. You could have been given only 1 which is to pay in full
