I booked a flight online with Northwest Airlines via travelocity.com. It became impossible for me to fly on the designated date and I knew ahead of time, so I called and asked what the procedure is for a reschedule flight. I was told that I would have to pay the difference of the cost I paid (235.00 flight + 15.95 flight insurance) plus UP TO 140.00 in cancellaton fee. Why would I pay already 250.00 + 140.00 for a flight that was originally 235.00! The insurance fee (15.95) I just lose out on.

I bought it, but it wasn't used when I rescheduled the flight so it wouldn't apply to my future rescheduled flight, unless I could prove that there was some extenuating circumstance such as a death in the family, in which case I would actually have to provide them with a DEATH CERTIFICATE!!! (all for a 15.95 application to a future flight).

I was then told that if I didn't rescedule the flight within 3 months of the original flight date, I would lose the ticket completely and I can't transfer the ticket to another person, not even as a gift! Once I purchased it, why should they be able to tell me what I can do with it!!! I will never ever go through this ripoff company again! Don't do it people!! If anything should go awry in your life that would prevent you from flying on the scheduled date, you will be officially screwed! That is where theire game will begin. Beware.

And further, the "customer service reps" are located in India (which was told to me by one of the reps), they have very deep accents that are sometimes hard to understand, adding to your frustration!

Airline rules, not the travel agencies

AUTHOR: Jason - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 16, 2006

When booking an airline ticket through a travel agency, 99% of the time, the travel agency is not charging your credit card. Look at your statement for the date that you purchased the flight, and you should have a charge from Northwest, with the ticket numbers listed on it.

The airlines, not the travel agencies, set all rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and prices, regarding any information on your air reservation. The travel agency has no power to overrule the airline.

If you do a search on NWA.com, and search for 'contract' in the bottom, you will get a contract of carriage.

some interesting points in the contract:

1) WHOLLY UNUSED TICKETS
IF A PASSENGER MISSES THE TICKETED TRAVEL DATE, THE PASSENGER IS REQUIRED TO SELECT A NEW TRAVEL DATE AND EXCHANGE THE TICKET WITHIN 90 DAYS AFTER THE ORIGINAL TICKETED FLIGHT.

also:

PRESENTATION OF A TICKET FOR TRANSPORTATION ON NW BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE PASSENGER NAMED THEREON RENDERS THE TICKET VOID.
SUCH TICKET WILL BE SUBJECT TO CONFISCATION AND WILL BE INELIGIBLE FOR ANY REFUND.
I) TICKETS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE. FURTHERMORE, NW IS NOT LIABLE TO THE OWNER OF A TICKET WHEN PRESENTED BY ANOTHER PERSON FOR HONORING OR REFUNDING.

also, listed on Travelocity at the time you book an airline ticket:

Ticket is non-transferable.
Once ticket is issued, it may not be reassigned to a different passenger or airline.
Ticket changes may incur penalties and/or increased fares.

Also, if you click on the link of "non refundable"

What does "non-refundable" mean?
(sic) In addition to not being able to obtain a refund for the unused ticket, additional fees for re-issuing the ticket may be imposed by the airline. In general, this fee ranges between $75.00 and $100.00, plus any applicable fare changes.

i'm sorry for the length of this post, however all this information is available online in easy to find locations. i'm sorry that you had a bad experience patricia, but Travelocity did not set the policy. You also agreed to the policy when purchasing the ticket.
