I have been attending University of Phoenix for a little over a year and am about 5 classes or 15 credits short of my associates degree. I am very grateful for the chance to hurry thru my studies, but that is the only good thing that UOP has done for me. I have turned to this website for help..... I hope that I can find it...

(THIS IS PRETTY MUCH JUST BASIC BACKGROUND, PLEASE SKIP IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE JIST OF UOP)
I have had several different financial and academic counselors since I have enrolled in Axia online. They never inform me of the change, and this has caused many frustrations and plenty of confusion for me. I also never receive any help from the instructors, since it is entirely online you are pretty much on your own for EVERYTHING, in fact, I have had teachers promise to call and never do so.... Although I had ONE excellent teacher, who seemed equally fed up with UOP as anyone else... It has been difficult to keep on top of my studies... It was advertised that it would be convenient, but it has been anything but... You have to post 2 responses to your peers 3 times a week, which alternates between your two classes (unless you are like me and your academic counselor puts you in classes that are on the same track, leaving me with 12 participation posts a week.) Plus you have 7-8 assignments per week... so its been pretty time consuming.

THE PROBLEM:

About two weeks ago I recieved a call saying that I did not have enough funding to carry on with my classes because my status as a dependant student... SOO in response to this I ordered my transcripts and began applying at the community college in my area because it is MUCH cheaper and I can pay out of pocket... Once I informed them of my plans I IMMEDIATLY (it usually takes about 3-5 calls in order to actually get a call back) got a call from my Financial Counselor saying that, due to the point that I was at in my loans I could not drop out of UOP.... So, in her words, I have to complete 60% of the studies in my quarter in order to drop UOP with out having to pay for the last two classes that I took...... Then again, I do not have enough funding to take the classes that I need in order to meet this 60% for the quarter... So I am pretty much screwed as UOP sees it...

I AM NOT paying them a dime because I have called around to FAFSA, Direct Loans, and another location that was mentioned on UOPSUCKS.COM, and they all say that it sounds like another one of UOP's tricks. I was promised when I started there that loans would cover everything........ now that I am almost done they are starting up with this crap...... What should I do? I just want to transfer to the community college with out having to owe for things that my loans have already paid off.... Please help me if you can.

They did this to my mom as well... Except in her situation her academic and financial counselor were working together to embezzle money from students.. So one day she got a check in the mail for the amounts that they had taken from her, and the counselors were never heard from again... I guess UOP didn't get their fare share of THAT embezzlement and got a little upset.

UOP is not about education, it is about money..... don't waste your time or money.

I am 22 and I just want to finish school and get the education that I DESERVE.... UOP is trying as hard as they can to try and prevent this from happening for me. :(

The Justice Department is a "Whiner?"

AUTHOR: Cathy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 06, 2008

I read the posts here attacking the person for stating UOP is ripping them off. Guess what? The United States Justice Department just wrote the Supreme Court in a California Case, UOP 'IS' ripping off consumers and the Federal Government to boot. Actually the people filing complaints over UOP practices are the ones that CAN write and spell! They are intelligant enough to get out of UOP. It is the ones that can not spell or write that are not filing the complaints. The 19th leading Standford Loan Provider, College Loan Corporation in the US, just pulled out of funding classes for UOP the First of 2008; with the multitude of loans that may not be collectable because of UOP fraud they stand to loose a fortune if they continue to provide UOP with loans. So they are gone.

The Federal Education Board wrote, in formal studies.............UOP IS RIPPING OFF THE PUBLIC AND TAXPAYERS!. Maybe I am one of those "Stupid, lazy" people the rebuttal was aimed at, and ignorance runs rampant in my blood, or maybe I am just too blind or deaf, but seems to me when the Justice Department and Federal Education Board tells the Superior Courts UOP is a rip off, well, this old southern lady, is smart enough to listen regardless of my "lazy" inclination.

ATTN: Red Flag....

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 10, 2007

Your ill educated response is scary at best...I'm sorry you're hiring people with an opinion and not facts.

Give the UOP a call, register into a 300-400 level class, then you tell me if its challenging or not. These yahoo's on this site all failed because they couldn't handle the workload. I would like to see someone like you try it out. I have a degree from a ground campus in WI...I got a 3.8, and drank tons of beer. I retained nothing... Now I'm at UOP, and I can actually retain the information and use it in my personal and professional life.

HR Practices

AUTHOR: Kerstin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 10, 2007

I think my comments were misunderstood somehow. It's not where the college is, it's the "college" itself. It's not that the college is in Phoenix, or Peoria, or wherever. It's not whether I "like" the applicant or not. It's only a matter of comparing degrees, and the quality of the degree, and a company's hiring practices. I simply told you my company's policy, and that many companies operate the same way and have the same view of online degrees. It's just a fact of life. Degrees from online schools are just not thought of the same way as a degree from a brick and mortar school, at least at this point. And since you asked I went to Indiana University Bloomington.

Sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean to. Just letting people know what goes on in a lot of hiring offices, and maybe what should be considered when searching for a good school to attend and what your degree will be worth. That's all. I'm sure there will probably be comments lashing out at my response. Sorry in advance and best of luck to you.

Kersten... Do you like the Yankees or the Mets?

AUTHOR: Educated - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 07, 2007

Just trying to help out your future applicants. Who cares what the program covers or what your applicants have accomplished by earning their degrees...it's who Kersten likes that counts.

NICE! I am a KU graduate... I guess if a Missouri graduate wants to work for me.. I will have to skip over their resume's. Well, because... I just don't like them. I don't operate that way and it bothers me that you do. At least your admitting it.... you are prodigious....

Do you have a degree? If so, from where? Wouldn't it make you furious to know that your University and UOP have the same accreditation? Oh yes, but that doesn't matter either... it's who you like that matters.

Be careful what you write in public forums... your screening practices are not HR appropriate!

POSTED: Friday, December 07, 2007

And you, Nomoneyforuop, just proved my point about the NASTY types of people that spend 75% of their lives complaining about everything...Hey, one of my two jobs in college was in a restaurant...I bet you're the type who complains about everything, do you know what restaurant folks do to the food of people like you? Ewww. You're right, I did not read your entire post because the content is redundant throughout this entire site and all ridiculous

Congrats on your stellar performance in school, you are a great student. I'm not categorizing all my students into an all dumb column, there are some success stories, but you won't find them here. (ripoffreport)

No I didn't have rich parents, I've done everything on my own. I NEVER asked for sympathy, I plainly was using an example to prove the point of adults that are lazy and dumb who fail these courses.

Leave UOP. Goodbye. But do this first; collegesource.com. Research your local JC's and State Universities. See their cost, and the distance they are from your home. Then think about the classes not being scheduled because of lack of participants, and more importantly you sitting your old butt in class with a bunch of girls gone wild coeds and frat boys. Have fun. But beware, you won't have an ear to complain to over there. Fortunately here, at UOP, you have all the access to whine and cry about our cost, we'll always pick up the phone. That's why you do it. If every online school is a joke, how are busy people with families supposed to do achieve their goals?

Good luck with your future academic endeavors, hopefully you won't be retired by the time you're done. I KNOW none of you people will ever be successful at ANY other college. Prove me wrong.

UOP Degree Red Flag on Resume

AUTHOR: Kerstin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 07, 2007

I am in charge of screening/hiring at my mid-size (100 person) company in NYC. When I see a UOP degree listed on a resume, it sends up a red flag, and the only way I would look at the applicant is if the rest of their experience or education somehow made up for the fact that they got a degree from UOP. Honestly, between someone with NO degree and some experience and someone with a degree from UOP I would hire the person with experience only. Next to someone with a degree from a regular school, I wouldn't even consider the UOP graduate. I'd much rather see even a community college listed - or even someone that attended a regular school but didn't even finish! I've heard this from other people in my position also. Sorry, but it's just not the same, and just seems a little cheesy too.

Help for nomoneyfor UOP

AUTHOR: Educated - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 07, 2007

Here is what I hear...

"Waaaaaaa :( it hurts ......I have to work for my college degree!"

"What assignments??? hard work??? but can't you just give me the degree?"

"I have to participate?"

"Waaaaa I hate reading! " Why would I have to read the Federal Plus Loan application before I signed it??? Moreover, Why didn't my parents read the Plus Loan before they signed it?? It clearly states that those loans have to be paid during school. Noone is tricking you into an education. GOODNESS!

"Waaaa this is hard I don't want to do this anymore"

Get over it.. your almost done... and you need to finish what you started. It's a good habit to get into early in life. Chances are the traditional college you are going to be attending will ask you to work hard and do assignments as part of completing your degree. And yes ..... successfull students from any University will tell you they have spent several "overnighters" completing their college degrees.

My advise to you... go back to your financial site with UOP choose the alternative loan option and READ the application ... there are several banks to choose from and they will clearly state that they are deferred for six months.. this has nothing to do with UOP... This is a better option for your parents if they can't afford to pay for your loans while you are in school. If you need furthur instructions let me know. Stop crying! READ!

Oh my goodness... embezzlement... do you even know what that means? Your family seems to have the start it but don't want to finish it attitude.. and again your playing the blame game. We gave you a chance to go to school... no we are not "cheap" as you stated you were wanting earlier.... but you get what you pay for! We are salaried employees that do not need to embezzle from honest Americans to make a living. Most of us are college graduates that make college worthy incomes... we have no need to steal from you or mommy!

There are thousands and thousands of us with college degrees that don't sympathize with you. By the way, do you have documentation from UOP promising you that student loans under a dependant status would cover your degree? I didn't think so! If that was the case you would never have applied for additional funds through the PLUS LOANS!
You asked what you should do...no right to blame UOP for your lack of involvement in your education. I just told you. you have we will help you but we're not doing it all for you!
Yes

UOP Graduate

AUTHOR: Disbelief - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 30, 2007

This is in response to the person who said they felt ripped off by UOP.

Where truly ripped off by UOP or your loan provider. I too am a graduate of UOP, San Diego Campus. And at the time I attended, I didn't wish to deal with fighting for classes at a Traditional College. The only thing UOP made me do at the time was get letters from prior colleges attended that I was mature enough to attend because at the time they only accepted students who were at least 25 years of age or older. I was put off by it, but if those were the requirements so be it.

With the exception of one teacher I truly enjoyed the education I received. Yes, they are expensive and you can attend a local community college to get the necessary credits. I attended Mesa Junior College with no problem. UOP accepted my credits earned because I had actually earned an Associates Degree. In addition, they accepted my credits from Mesa College. In fact, I was told my a representative at UOP to attend Mesa.

Never was $$ an issue with regard to my attending another school. Maybe you can look at your transcripts and make sure they transfer and attend the junior college anyway. UOP itself cannot tell you your unable to attend another school. Maybe it is the people your dealing with and Not the school? I am nothing saying your feels are wrong...Just wanted to provide some help. I agree they are way over the top with regard to cost, but than again so are all schools. And Financial Aid forget about it...You have to poor, broke and in need of a medical help before the so called Financial Aid will help.

But, do keep the faith. Education, is the KEY! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP Young Lady...this is just a road block. Go around it.

ANONOMOUS JUST PROVED MY POINT ABOUT UOP...

AUTHOR: Nomoneyforyouuop - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 30, 2007

Just to let you know, like mentioned before that you DID NOT READ, I have maintained a 3.6 (or 3.65) at UOP... YES, I am in classes with people who can barely type, spell, or put sentences together, but I am not one of those individuals.

I graduated high school with a 3.7, taking all honors classes... SO, before you jump to judge my education level, I think you should instead be spending time trying to get your happy little college that you work for out of the hole...... UOP is ripping me off. Period... I am paying WAY TO MUCH for crappy classes, from a useless university. I have not been challenged scholastically since I have been there. In fact, the only struggles that I have had have been with their idiotic staff, such as you... thanks for proving my point....

Also, I continue to work a full time job as well as keeping my grades high.. So dont try to glorify yourself about being in college and working two jobs... Boo h*o for you.. Everyone does it now-a-days, with the economy like it is there is no way that you can't unless you have rich parents who are willing to cater to you.

By the way, I have called my loan providers and they have told me that they have received SEVERAL complaints about how UOP distributes their money and they have suggested that I move on to talk to the director or president of The University of Phoenix. They even said that they would have a conference call with them to try and clear up the discrepancies in their story. Funny how the people that provide me with the loans say that there is no problem, but UOP says different.. HMMMM.... Another thing that is weird... How does the price of classes continue to rise every time I talk to my Financial Counselor? Have any ideas on that one?

I AM NOT GOING TO PAY UOP A DIME! NOR AM I GOING TO CONTINUE TO WASTE MY TIME THERE. It is ridiculous.

Anonymous, Next time you want to personally attack someone because you have nothing positive to say about the organization being mentioned, try and at least do it gracefully so you don't make yourself look like a jacka**. And if you are sick of reading the complaints about UOP I suggest you stay off consumer report web-sites..

ATTENTION AYNONAMOUS!!

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 30, 2007

If you work at UOP you are about as foolish as the students that should not even be accepted. THIS IS NOT A REAL SCHOOL, YOU FALL INTO THE RANKS OF ITT TECH, SANFORD BROWN, NEC, WESTWOOD COLLEGE and REMINGTON COLLEGE. ALL OF THESE JUNK SCHOOLS SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!! Most of the people that your school accepts, should not even have graduated high school, they cannot write, spell, and they certainly could not get into a traditional college, and if they attempted community college they would end up in remedial courses. Most companies don't take on line schools seriously and never will. The only ones that hold clout are state colleges, community colleges and public technical/vocational finishing schools run by the individual state board of education.

Below is one of my responses to an earlier UOP Complaint Thread.

All brick & morter colleges and community colleges offer on line classes now at reasonable state tuition rates. If everyone would just stop this Bull$#*& of attending these rip off places of higher education, you would not be getting yourselves in a financial bind, or having these rip off companies trying to ruin your credit. Then UOP, AXIA, STRAYER, CAPELLA, and who ever else Jon Doe for profit schools will close up shop and be gone for good!

These on line schools are a 100% rip off. I have taken on line classes through one of my local community college's and I am satisfied to know that its 100% accredited and transferable to any 4 year university, no questions asked.

Please everyone, stop giving yourself a heartache

If you can't handle school, and don't get federal funding regulations, you shouldn't go to school...

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 29, 2007

I am tired of reading these posts. I am hurt that my education that I am working hard to accomplish is being torn apart by people who FAILED their classes or dropped for ridiculous reasons. I am an employee with UOP and from my experience, the people who waste their time on sites like this and UOPsux.com, can't handle the academic workload we have given them. Therefore are not college material ANYWHERE. (Shouldn't you be doing your homework instead of surfing the web to complain?) If your personal counselor was deceptive, I apologize for them. As for me, I have never been pressured, nor have I ever lied to get students.

That said, the students I do have that drop and file complaints could barely spell, read, or copy and paste on a computer. These people are deceptive and have false confidence that doesn't always come out in a phone conversation. Unfortunately that's our primary way of communication online, and if you think you can attend a ground campus with a family and a job, well...Good luck. If you drop from a ground campus (local J.C. or community,) You will STILL have to pay the money you used.

Quit blaming UOP because we are bigger and better than the little guys. The government runs the federal loans the same across the boards. I enrolled a friend, she dropped out due to medical conditions. The next day, she was in the bar drinking and partying. She got a bill to pay for the dropped classes. She doesn't talk to me anymore. Again: You drop, you pay. If you can't handle the work, don't get educated and keep working the counter at Wal-Mart.

As for dependents, I was once too a dep. and I had to work 2 jobs while attending ground campus full time in WI because the government wouldn't pay for it in full. Going to college is hard work, and UOP is NO exception. I'm proud of that. Shame on all of you for submitting lawsuits and/or complaints, go to your state University and I want to see your grades, and then your bill. (If you need info about student loans call: 1800 433 3243 (the DOE), they will tell you ALL about it.

In terms of the teachers, I have had a couple of duds. But I still followed my syllabus and did my work with great grades behind it. These classes are made for working adults and they are fast. Don't blame a teacher for YOUR ignorance. The work is hard and sometimes you must become independent to achieve these challenging goals.

Here's a tip: Search your favorite restaurant of all time on these cry baby sites. Will you ever eat there again? Maybe not, but in this country, people are allowed and take advantage to whine and complain every time they don't get their way. (A reason most countries hate us.)

If you can't handle school, don't inquire with them. If you want to be challenged, apply... and don't cry about the bill.

Any person can sit in their basement and make a website like UOPsux.com. Did you know the person that made that site is a former employee who got FIRED for disclosing personal information about a student? (FERPA violation) If you are an identity theft victim, you should thank us for firing him. Shame on you for giving a degenerate attention.

Lastly, my name is anonymous because I don't want my employers to see me waste my breathe on a rebuttal to stuff that will do NOTHING to stop the wonderful UOP.

Advice to UOP victims:

AUTHOR: Insider42 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 29, 2007

from my observation, there are more than enough people to start a nationwide class action lawsuit. Call your local news stations--especially in the Phoenix area, but they have satellite locations all across the country--and tell them what's up. They love this kind of thing. uopsucks.com is a good place to start.

Good luck!
