for the most part. That is a scary story. You never think that sub-standard repairs can be riding around on our roads everyday.

Please read my report and use as a guide to get your money back. Value Brakes paid for 1200.00 brake job. What you see on here is what I mailed to the CEO of Value Brakes.

Make sure you use the liabilty issues etc. Make sure you are factual and not slanderous, name calling. Be factual and to the point. Do not embellish any facts.

I was prepaired to go to small cliams court.

The original letter you see here had a 15 day dealine. They paid my money on the 16th day. In fact a letter of demand had been mailed on the day I received my check from them.

Do not give up or let pressure off them.

I was totally suprised how many people have had to have thier brake work redone. Wish I could give an email address in here so can help others in they needed to take further action.

Good luck with your problems.

Bill

Hello, you have come to this website from an advertisement you have seen about Value Brakes. This is what has happened to me with my truck, I pray it does not happen again. The owner had the nerve to tell me I should have asked for more money when this first happened. Please keep checking back to this site for updates. I may end up in court with this matter, that is why I have asked for your information if you have had problems with this company. If so, maybe a Class Action lawsuit can be brought against incompetent companies and workers such as these.

If you have never had work done by Value Brakes, count yourself as lucky and never go there. This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.

Please read the events which have led to the creation of this webiste.
Chronology of Events:

On the date of November 9, 2005 I contracted with Value Brakes on Garners Ferry Road to perform front brake work on a 1999 Dodge 2500 4x4 Truck.

Contracted work was originally to turn rotors, new premium brake pads and rebuild both front calipers.

Technician damaged right front rotor trying to remove, Value brakes purchased a new one.

Technician then used a Benzyne torch on the 4x4 hub to loosed right front rotor.

Took over six hours for work to be performed. Manager stated the brake pedal was soft and would harden in about 200 miles.

On the date of November 10, 2005, truck was returned to Value Brakes on Decker Blvd because brake pedal was getting softer. Arrived at Decker location at 12:30 p.m.

Technician found right front brake caliper bleeder valve was broken and the left front bleeder valve was left open and each time brakes were applied, brake fluid was being pushed out of the brake caliper.

Technician found almost all lug nuts on both front tires were cross-threaded and therefore stripped. Three lug nuts on the right front tire had to be cut off.

Technician found improper rebuild of brake caliper and ordered two new ones.

Technician also noted the brake calipers had also created excessive heat in the rotors and rotors had bluing to them, had to turn rotors again.

At about 5:30 p.m. it was decided the truck would not be ready and a decision was made to try to obtain a rental vehicle. Enterprise Rent a Car was only company close and rental was performed at 5:50 p.m.

I was informed the truck would be ready by noon of the following day, Friday November 11, 2005, because lug nuts and studs would be in and replaced.

I arrived at Decker Blvd location about 2 p.m. on November 11, 2005 to obtain truck.

Manager (Bill) informed me my truck would not be ready until noon on Saturday November 12, 2005. I was supposed to leave for a trip to Florida that Saturday morning.
Reason truck would not be ready was because the wrong lug nuts and studs were ordered and there were only three lug nuts in Columbia. Value Brakes had placed an order from a company in Georgia. Plus the Manager (Bill) listened to what I had told him about the torch and ordered a new right front 4x4 hub assembly. {Reason being the hub had bearings in a nylon gear and when heated the nylon gear had melted and its integrity was compromised} I then made a couple of phone calls and found all the studs which were needed at NAPA Auto Parts, main warehouse in Charlotte North Carolina. I offered to drive up to Charlotte and bring the lug nuts back to the store that day. Value Brakes never gave a timely answer and about 4 p.m. the offer was rescinded due to the fact the NAPA warehouse closed at 5 p.m.

Enterprise Rent a Car closes at noon on Saturdays. I returned the rental car to Enterprise at 11:30 a.m. so Value Brakes would not be charged for two more days of rental. Enterprise drove me to the Value Brakes on Decker Blvd.

I arrived at Value Brakes on Decker Blvd at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday November 12, 2005 to find the lug nuts and studs still had not yet arrived and now without a vehicle. The manager (Bill) stated they were on the way.

I left with the 1999 Dodge 2500 4x4 truck at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2005.

I spoke with Brooks Pough, District Manager, Value Brakes and was told of the time issues etc, Mr. Pough agreed to refund the cost of the original brake job due to the inconvenience, $283.00 plus the cost of the rental vehicle, $190.88. This was to take care of inconvenience, not warranty.

On the date of July 31, 2006, I needed to replace tired on the truck. When the lug nuts were removed, the right front tire had one stripped due to the fact the technician placed an old lug nut on the new stud, causing to strip again.

I obtained a price for the replacement and spoke to Brook Pough. Mr. Pough agreed to pay for the replacement.

When the tire company was going to replace the stripped stud, they pointed out the brake calipers were shot, almost no brake pads and they refused to do any work.

Brooks Pough was notified of this problem and then stated Value Brakes had no warranty on this due to the refund made in November.

On the date of August 9, 2006 an appointment was made with Chris, Super Technician, at the Two Notch Road location to access the brakes.

According to repair estimate, the truck needed new pads, one new rotor and rebuild kits for the calipers, at a cost of $469.53. The truck only had been driven about 11,000 miles since the brake work in November and there was only 5% pad left on the front brakes.

I refused to allow Value Brakes make a repair on the vehicle due to past performance.

I then obtained information as to deal with the Home Office of Value Brakes, as directed by Brook Pough, since now this was above the District Mangers authority.

I sent Value Brakes an email that evening, August 9, 2006. According to Value Brakes website, customers would receive a response in forty-eight hours. A total of four emails were sent to then receive a phone call from Don Roppelt, CEO, Value Brakes on August 23, 2006.

I had another company perform the brake work. No other company which estimates were received from, perform rebuilds on brake calipers, so new ones had to be purchased. The company did the work and also showed the right side brake rotor had to be replaced. It was out of specifications. Brake work was done and cost was $1208.00. Brake work was done on the date of August 11, 2006.

On the date of August 23, 2006, at 3:51 p.m. Don Roppelt, CEO, Value Brakes called me and spoke about how the company was bought out by the new company and they did not warranty these concerns, however Mr. Roppelt did state he would pay $269.00 for a $1208.00 brake job. In the conversation it was discussed from Mr. Roppelt, that I should have asked for more money in November to cover the twenty three hours of time involved with sitting around.

On the date of September 7, 2006 it was noticed Value Brakes lied to the me about the brake calipers which were suppose to have been replaced at the Decker Blvd store on November 10, 2005. The invoice for Garners Ferry, Decker, and estimate at Two Notch Road all show a Brake Caliper rebuilds, Part number 143.66008

Facts:

Value Brakes Management knowingly and willfully allowed a customer to drive an unsafe vehicle on the public roadways of the State of South Carolina. Placing the customer and other citizens of the State of South Carolina in danger.

Value Brakes Management had Direct Liability in the situation since the store manager and district manager were consulted on the original date of repairs.

The Value Brakes technician also had liability in allowing a customer to drive an unsafe vehicle on the road of the State of South Carolina since the technician broke a brake caliper bleeder valve and left the other valve open.

Value Brakes did inconvenience a customer by taking an enormous amount of time to effect repairs.

Value Brakes did refund the original cost of repairs, but this was for only for inconvenience.

Value Brakes stated that I should have asked for more money in November for the inconvenience.

Value Brakes has stated it was purchased this past July 2006.

Value Brakes lied to me when it stated the brake calipers were replaced with new ones.

Value Brakes never gave any written notification that the warranty was now void due to the fact a refund was made on the original brake work.
