I had purchased the Verizon wireless network card through Best Buy. At the time of purchase, the salesman explained the service would run 59.95 plus taxes (another ripoff) monthly. I was also told the 29.95 activation would be waved. Before signing my contract, I asked about the activation charge on the purchase and was told the 29.95 credit would show on my first statement. Fast forward three weeks and I receive my statement. There was no credit for the activation. I called customer service and following a long wait (obviously while the connection was re-routed to India) I was told that Verizon will not honor waving the activation and I needed to take it up with Best Buy. I returned to Best buy, contract in hand, and the same salesman told me that the store does not issue the credit and I should go back to Verizon. I called Verizon again, explaining that they should do the right thing and honor the initial contract. After being put off and put on hold a number of times, I stated that I request to have the service cancelled (being within the 30 day period). I let it be known that I would be more than willing to pay for the first month service but not the activation. The following month my bill came with charges from both prior and forthcoming months along with late fees and no activation credit. I called again stating I had authorized the cancellation. I was told they showed no records of my request and if I wanted to now cancel I would be charged an early cancellation fee of 225.00. I told him I refused to pay anything other than the 59.95 for the three weeks I used the service and to mail me a final bill outlining my charges. The final bill included all the prior charges, cancellation fee and additional late fees. To this day, I have not settled the account and have been receiving harassing phone calls from the credit company. I have repeatedly told them my story and alerted them not to call me anymore yet every week or so they do.
