I was just talking to my mother in law who purchased this card for her family only two months ago. They had been wondering why the didn't receive any bill over that time. When visiting the state they purchased the card in (they are missionaries on furlough so they travel a lot, hence the Verizon card) they found out not only where they sending the bills to the wrong place but they also had a bill of over $9,000 for less then two months of usage. The company said they would wave the fee and acknowledged that it is possible there was false advertisement. They required the family to increase their plan, however, to $200 a month for 10GB.

My husband and I had been considering this card for a while and decided to purchase one as well last week, before we heard any of this. I recieved a call about overages from Verizon so I checked my account online which already has us at 11GB of usage. I called in, they mentioned that because I came in at the end of the month it was already prorated to 5GB. That means that my husband and I have already used 6-7 GB and will owe at least $1500 on our first bill. She told me to contact them when we get it and they will take that charge off, and then after that we can see what our usage is like. My husband works purely online building websites etc which includes downloading of programs and all that business so we are a bit nervous to see what this will do to us monthly.

I just read an article on here by another consumer who is wanting to file charges again Verizon based off of a $9000 bill he received and I wanted to let him know he is not the only. He was told that he should only use the internet for text-only sights. REALLY? In this day and age text only?

Your limited to only 5GB

AUTHOR: This Is Me - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 09, 2008

First off, the first story, well you won't believe this, but even if your out of town or don't get the bill you still are required to pay, did your friends just think that they were getting free service for a few months out of kindness of Verizon's heart?

Secondly, if your husband does a lot on the internet then you will need a lot more than 5GB a month. The rep was correct for suggesting text only browsing. If you have a plan with limited usage then you must monitor that usage or you will pay overages.

I have the same problem with my 5GB

AUTHOR: Scott - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 07, 2008

I have a broadban card from verizon. First I have to say I have had nothing but the best in customer service from them. However for the first 9 months I didnt have a problem. Then my service started to go slow I found out latter that I was going over my 5GB. I have an old plan were verizon doesnt charge me for overages.
So what verizon does to me is they put my service on slow speed as though they are punishing me. Verizon never informes me If I go over. I have sence learned how to check my GB. But here is the thing, sence Verizon cant bill me for the overages, due to my old contract, I feel like they are harrasing me buy puting me on slow service to push me out of my contract and that is what they want, me out of my contract. I am paying for high speed and they put me on slow speed, they shouldnt be charging me for high speed. They punish me for like a month at a time. When I ask them how long untill I am back on high speed, they say "about two to three weeks" I cant do alot because of this. I understand now that Broadban is not rely for home use, but verizon doesnt rely tell you this. It is rely easy for Verizon to say " if you are geting Broadban for home use it is not recumended".

Here is the thing, I bet all the people under the new contract that get charged for overages are not put on slow speed until they have racked up a large bill owed to Verizon. I do not believe Verizon can have it both ways. so again if you are on the old plan and they cant charge you for overages they slow you up. If you are under the new plan Verizon sits back and lets you rack up huge bills, and I have heard of large bills. I believe this needs to be investegated buy the right departments withing the goverment as unfair practice. It is very clear that Verizon is trying to get people out of thier old contracts and delibertly charging people for overages. Where is the UNLIMETED verizon claims to be?. I wish an attorney would look into what verizon is doing.
thank you for reading this, I do belielve Verizon to be a good company, I just believe they are makeing a big mistake

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

I know how you feel

AUTHOR: Quil - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 02, 2008

I your husband has an online business plz go ahead and cancel. That will not meet your needs even with a 10GB plan. Looks like you need dsl, a t1 line, cable connection. If you were under the assumption of unlimited I'm sorry to hear that. That is definately not fair. But if someone said ANYTHING you can ALWAYS GO TO YOUR TOS (terms of service) for clarification on how many GB's of service you receive. The purpose of a contract is to explain to you your service. You may be asking why am I responding. Now, I can say all the things I couldn't say on the phones in customer service!

Beware of Verizon shills masquerading as informed consumers

AUTHOR: Bill - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 09, 2008

First off i had the same problem with Verizon. they like to make you feel like the "bad guy" and put you on the defensive with statements like 'you are abusing the system" or "using more than your fair share of bandwidth". that's the biggest line of baloney ever. those folks know what the term BROADBAND means and what it impies and infers. the used the term in their advertizing and never mentioned a word about 5 gb limit during the sale. When I found out about it, I recieved a letter stating my account was using more than that and I had the option to terminate without a penalty. This I did. Then I get a bill for the early termination penalty. Then i go to the store and they tell me they cant help that I have to call from home. Then I call from home and I get a customer service rep who wants me to fax her a copy of the letter. I told her the company sent it to me and needs to get their communications straight, so she hangs up on me. the I call back and another employeee said everything was fine and not to worry about it

then I get another bill for the same charges.

This time I go straight to the president of Verizons office and after they kick me down the ladder to a guy in my area he tells me he wants a copy of the letter. He also tells me that all communications are documented on customers files and mine had no indication that any such letter was sent. Then I recited the letter as best i could and he made an investigation. then he said there was letters like that sent out but he had no record of one going to me. Then he said he would knock off part of the charges.

This is better but still unsatisfactory.

The 2 other rebuttals to this report are obviously in the employ of verizon, which makes me want to post a copy of this a lot more.

GO WITH SPRINT I HAVE AND THEY GIVE UNLIMITED DATA TRANSMISSION WITHOUT THE HASSLE EXPENSE OR INTIMIDATION.

Lawyers feel free to contact me.

5GB PLANS

AUTHOR: S. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 06, 2008

5 gb was initiated due to customers who were streaming video, mass downloading of media and etc... these customers were abusing the disclaimer that is within the contract. Verizon prohibits the use of the system for these things due to it will 'tie up' the data for the majority of the customers who are using the service. These customers came after verizon(ABUSE OF THE COURT SYSTEM) when verizon shut their accounts down for breaking THE RULES IN THE CONTRACT THEY SIGNED (contracts dont seem to mean much these days, why bother if you will find judges that will let you break them anyway!)

Courts stated if the plan is ulimited verizon cant put restrictions on it, therefore verizon changed the plan to 5 GB to save the integrity of the data network. Quality outweighs Quanity. If you want to 'bog down' someones network, it wont be verizon that way the remainder of their LOYAL customer base who have had the service since before the 5GB plan can continue to enjoy great speeds! The card was not intended for use at home it was for those of us traveling on business or students for classwork. Now that people are wanting to use them as an everyday service at home I am sure technology will adjust in the meantime we would like to continue the service as it was. Data card for laptop on the go, cable/dsl for everyday at home!

If you are unhappy I know for a fact Verizon will work within the first month, which is more than enough time to figure out if its going to work for you. For your parents who mail 'never came' I know for a fact that if the first bill is not paid verizon will call or turn your service off because of the dangers of fraud within the first month! As far as the high bills they are taking those charges off so no one is actually paying it anyway! If you dont want the higher plan, then dont take it. Switch to the other providers that want to sign up as many people as they can regardless if their service can maintain its quality as they overload it!

Pay Attention

AUTHOR: Andy - (U.S.A.)

Guess what? Wireless service is not free. Please pay your bill. It is not the company's fault that you do not know how to keep up with your usage.
