 After purchasing a phone through an upgrade at Verizon Wireless our bill increased over $200 per month for the next 2 months. I was assured by the customer service rep that our bill would only increase about $6 per month and he also said he would set up alerts on our phones that would notify us if our data was about to exceed our limit. We've had several issues in the past when we upgraded a phone and the bill went up when it wasn't supposed to. I called Verizon and spoke to a csr and she informed me that we were set up for alerts on Verizon's side but we were supposed to set it up on our end as well. No one ever told us this which resulted in outrageous overage charges 2 months in a row. Also the data used on 2 of our phones was considerably more than it had been prior to getting the new phone. I was told by the csr that maybe those phones weren't connected to Wi Fi and perhaps that is why so much data was used. Several months ago we changed our data plan to accommodate an overage charge that one of our phones was consistently charged. We were told this new family share plan would be plenty after reviewing the history of our data usage. It was working until we purchased the new phone in September. The only thing Verizon has agreed to do is credit our account $25.

Did you move from a 3G device to a 4G device? 4G devices use considerabily more data than a 3G device.

 

Also, doing and streaming media (youtube, netflix etc) runs it up a ton as well as Facebook.

 

If you dont already have it a good way to monitor your usage on Verizon is the My Verizon application downloaded from the App Store. It will let you know how much data you have used and how much is remaining for the month. I have used this several years and have never gone over on my data which is the 6GB data plan.
