In october of 2008 I switched from Qwest Wireless to Verizon Wireless.

When I was with Qwest I had a 750 minute shared 2 phone plan, with unlimited long distance, unlimited text & picture messages and no roaming charges for 99 dollars a month.

I was transferred to Verizon Wireless from Qwest because Qwest was going to be doing away with their wireless program in February of 2009.

The salesman I spoke with told me they had a special for Qwest Migration....

That I would recieve the exact same plan I had through Qwest, 750 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited picture, unlimited long distance and no roaming charges PLUS two new Blackberry 8830 phones with car chargers and insurance for only 49 dollars a month!

Of course without shopping around I switched to Verizon. Who is going to offer a better deal than that? That is how I was pitched anyway...

Well... The phones that came were Nokia 6205. I called customer service and they told me to go ahead and activate the nokias and use them, that the blackberry's were just sold out right now and would be on their way soon. That when the blackberry's got here we would just send the nokias back with the return stamp in the same box. I said fine, and I activated the nokias.

About a 6 weeks later, I recieved my first bill... It was in the 500 dollar range! Apparantly the plan I was given differed from the plan I was pitched... In actuality I was given a 300 minute shared plan, unlimited long distance, NO unlimited text, NO unlimited picture and Verizon does charge for roaming. I also was not given any insurance.

It took me until December to get that straightened out. I ended up having to pay half of the fees, and they switched my plan to 700 minutes, unlimited long distance, unlimited text, unlimited picture and NO insurance for 99 dollars a month. So now I have a plan that is the same price but not as good as the plan I had through Qwest.

I was kinda blown off about the phones. So I continued to call since the Blackberry's never came. Everytime I was treated rudely. A few times I was hung up on... And when I did get someone who did not hang up they just told me that the phones were backordered and they would ship out as soon as they recieved more of them.

Around this time I started experiencing problems with my phone, and so did my husband. My vibrate option no longer worked and my speaker was blown. My husbands phone stopped making sound all together and both phones were powering down on their own. I called and complained a few times, was told someone would call me back to go through troubleshooting with us, that they were just really busy right now and backed up. Nobody ever called back. Finally in February I got someone who said she was going to send us two refurbished phones to hold us over until we got our blackberrys. I said fine, and the refurbished phones were sent out right away. We mailed back the old nokias and activated the new ones.

The new refurbished phones are worse than the originals! The back on my husbands kept falling off until it finally fell off and broke. My phone will not let me view my text messages... When I try to send a text message I will press the number 2 key and some other letter like Z or V will show up instead of A, B or C, a letter not even meant for that key. Both phones came scratched up. But we plugged through thinking our blackberrys will come and everything will be fine.

I called about these phones and was told nothing could be done until they showed the old phones were recieved, and sometimes that takes a few weeks because they get backed up and it takes a while for people to open the boxes and put in the computer that the phone has been recieved. So we waited and finally called back today.

Today I was told, there was nothing in the notes showing we ever complained about the phones being the wrong phone. We were told that since we activated the nokias we were recorded doing so and thus locked into the contract with those phones only and would not be recieving the phones we were promised.

We were also told we were stuck in our contract and that it would be 300 dollars to get out of the contract Verizon had breached. So now... We are stuck with a plan that is less minutes, charges for roaming, but same price as our old plan with qwest that we were happy with... AND with one phone that doesn't recieve texts, the keypad is messed up and the speaker is blown... and another phone that has to have the battery taped to it just to keep it from falling out.. BOTH phones came scratched and ugly looking and no car chargers at all.

Who in their right mind would really switch to a company providing a less desireable plan and less desirable phones? This is ludacris! And now convienently their "NOTES" in the computer don't match up with anything I'm saying?

WHAT A SCAM!!!

I live in Arizona... I didn't get the phone in NY.. And I did not sign any contact with a pen. The last rep I spoke with told me that when I activated the phones, it electronically recorded me doing so and that was my signature... And when I asked for a copy of the recording for my records he said I wasn't able to get it.

This all started when I had called about some questions with my Qwest bill and they told me about how they were not going to be doing wireless anymore after Feb 2009 and transferred me to a customer service rep for verizon wireless. I figured what the heck, let me see if they have a special or something.

The corporate office for Verizon Wireless, at least from what I found online, is in NY. So that is where the NY thing comes in.

That being said... I'm sorry you think I'm embellishing but I assure you I most certainly am not.

I'm not saying YOU are a bad rep, or that everyone at verizon wireless is bad... But I happened to get a bad one who just wanted to push the deal through. I wanted to shop around more. I was in no hurry since it was only October 2008. The rep was very insistant that I was getting a better deal.

Now if there is roaming included (and no I do not go outside of the country) the rep I spoke with must have given me the wrong information. I was told there were roaming charges and that is what part of my massive 500 dollar bill was. What that rep did was get a manager on the phone, and then they changed my plan to the 700 minute plan and were able to somehow retroact some of the fees where I only ended up having to pay 250 of the 500.

As far as the phones... I called when the nokia's arrived and I was told to activate them until the blackberry's became available again. How was I to know it would cause so much trouble? I was doing exactly what I was told.

My problem is this...

I had a 750 minute unlimited everything plan with 2 Motorola Q's with the qwerty keyboard through Qwest...

Why would I have ever switched to a plan with a 2 year contract, 700 minute plan for the same price and 2 nokia 6205's?

One of the first things the rep asked me was what kind of plan and phones I already had through Qwest.

He used that to pitch me and then I didn't even get what I was told I was getting... Seriously.... He told me I'd get the 2 blackberry's with the SAME exact plan 750 minutes unlimited everything (I realize now there is no 750 minute plan through verizon) 2 car chargers for free at half the price I was paying which was $49 dollars a month for BOTH phones. It sounded too good to be true... I am one of these customers that stays on the phone an hour and asks a million questions to the point of redundancy to ensure I know exactly what I'm getting into. I used to work in call centers and sales myself so I know exactly how this kind of thing works. He assured me that was the deal since I was a Qwest customer switching to Verizon.

Obviously you haven't heard of this deal, and neither did the last person I spoke with.... BECAUSE IT WAS A LIE!

This is my whole problem... It was a blatent lie to get the deal, and the majority of the reps I've spoken with since then either pushed me off until I got past my 30 days on purpose or they were just rude and inept in their ability to understand exactly what the heck happened.

Regardless, I got screwed and yes maybe $300 is no big deal to you... But it is a big deal to me and it is the principal of the whole thing. Why should I have to pay to end a contract Verizon breached, not me? That is B.S.

Some problems with your argument...

AUTHOR: Cmc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 06, 2009

First of all, the 700 minute Family share plan includes roaming and long distance right in the plan. It is built in. If you are calling other countries or roaming in other countries then of course you will be charged. Why would Verizon Wireless tell you that you were going to receive Blackberry's in the first place? I have never heard of such a thing. Not only that, customers in New York State are REQUIRED by law to have a physical signature for any contract that is agreed to so to be honest with you...I think you are embellishing this story quite a bit. Being from upstate New York I am not allowed to change my contract over the phone...I have to physically sign an agreement. Not only that, when your phone is damaged, whether it is through your own negligence or by the manufacturer (some type of defect) you do not get your accessories replaced even if they came with the phone originally. You only receive what is broken and that is it. If I buy a TV and a free DVD player comes with it and something happens to the TV while it's under warranty I don't get a new DVD player too!!!!!!!! You can only try and get fixed what is broken. You mentioned that there was no insurance on the phones as well. Do you own a vehicle?? In New York it is required that you pay auto insurance...it doesn't just come with the car so by that logic how can you not understand that you have to add insurance to get the phones covered?? Also, your contract would include everything that was with your plan and if you did not see insurance you should have called then. Not only that, when you received the Nokia's you should NOT have activated them if they were not what you were promised!!! I'm not trying to make you sound foolish but my advice to you is from now on, take initiative...if you make an agreement, GET IT IN WRITING, no matter what...ask to speak to a supervisor...go to your local Verizon store and ask questions...believe it or not, some of us know what we are/were doing. Everytime a customer called in , we were required to remark the account, no matter what the issue was. Not only that, ANY time you call, there is an automatic time stamp with the date and time of the call and the representative ID (if it is an outsource center they may not be an ID but definatley a timestamp) If you don't get anywhere with the rep., ask for the supervisor and then their supervisor until you either get what you want or make a compromise that will allow you to stay a happy customer. By all means, CANCEL. What difference is $300.00 when you are already paying probably close to $90 a month? In three months Verizon will be in the dust and maybe you will have what you want. I would also ask for the address of the VP of customer service. Every rep has access to this and if they tell you they don't, ask for a supervisor. I can tell you that you should always try the rep. first because if you call and demand a supervisor, per Verizon Wireless policy, so the supervisor knows what the call is about (and can research notes, etc.) the rep must get your account up and verified and if they can handle it fine, and if not then they will transfer you to someone who can try. Hope this helps for future issues...and not just for Verizon Wireless. All consumers must be pro-active and seek out what is fair and right!!!
