SEO Reputation Management at its best!

Recently my granddaughter, great-granddaughter and I went into a local Walgreens to use recently expired Register Rewards. This Walgreens had taken the expired coupons in the past, as long as they scanned. My granddaughter completed her transaction with the Asst. Manager, put her items with receipt in the cart and was waiting for mine to be completed. While waiting for me to finish she took her child, (my great-granddaughter) to the car to feed her a snack. My total is finallytallied, I use a gift card and there is a 6.00+ balance. Before I can pay the balance the Asst. Manager suddenly says "these are expired" to which I respond, "yes they are". Now, after what has turned out to be over an hour long experience, she states I can not have any of my merchandise and she refuses to finish the sale. She starts in on me about how we are trying to commit coupon fraud.

In the meantime, I complete my purchase at the register while this Asst.Manager takes my cart behind another counter, with my coupon folder. She refuses to give me my money back or my personal merchandise. So to bring this long saga to an end,the police are called, we are both fingerprinted and "trespassed" outside the store in the parking lot in front everyone and told by the police officer that if I don't "just shut up" he'll arrest me. Having lived in this community for over 35 years and being a working professional with nothing more in my life than a speeding ticket, this was most embarrassing. After many conversations with the Regional Manager that informed me the cashier, Asst Manager, stated I used profanity and she was intimidated which was an outright falsehood I received a letter from the Walgreens corp. office that they would no longer serve me as a customer. I feel that my granddaughter's rights were certainly violated since she had completed her transaction and was outside sittingi n the car.
How can a company treat customers like this, lie about them and get away with it?

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Something missing from your story.

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

There is something important missing from your story.

What happened in the time between the Assistant Manager's denying your coupons... and her confiscating your merchandise, calling the police, and barring you from Walgreens forever?

Most people would have said "OK, you will not accept the coupons. What is the total?" and then paid and been on their way.

It doesn't sound like this is what you did.

You're a fool.

AUTHOR: ReactorCore - (Canada)

A merchant can accept an "expired" coupon, but they KNOW they're not going to get reimbursed for the product. They have the total and absolute right to refuse the transaction.

You went into Wallgreen's knowing full well that said coupons were expired, which implies intent to defraud on the part of the consumer. You further incriminated yourself by admitting you knew they were expired to the Asst. Manager. Further, if I read this right, you may have gotten your granddaughter involved in this criminal activity by encouraging her to use expired coupons as well.

Speaking of, how were her rights violated when she was processed and made it out the door? Were her rights violated by just having to wait for you?? She could have easily said "screw you", drove out of the parking lot and not have broken any laws. She wasn't prevented from leaving by Wallgreen's, so your statement that her rights were somehow "violated" is just *stupid* and ignorant.

Sometimes merchants will give good, long standing customers "breaks", but they are in no way obligated to allow ANY customer to freeload on their good will, which is what YOU were doing, indicated by your admission that you constantly went there to use what you KNEW were expired coupons. At some point you're going to be costing the company MORE than you're actually worth to the ink on the page indicating the bottom line. Buying a $50 item does NOT put $50 in the pocket of Wallgreen's, they have to take many percentages out of that to pay for many things; staff wages, store upkeep, store space lease, equipment purchase or leasing (for example cash registers and scanners) and so forth. Don't blame them for finally putting their foot down here and giving your over privileged, couponing butt the boot.

You seem to be the type of consumer who finds a loophole provided by store staff, gets an unwarranted sense of entitlement and abuses it willy nilly and gets all indignant and butthurt when the company in question shuts your freeloading a*s down. You make other people who use coupons look bad too.

Congrats on getting your police record over a mere $6. Might be a new record. Hope it was worth the $6 you didn't save.

Are you serious???

AUTHOR: Stacey - (U.S.A.)

You tried to use expired coupons and have the nerve to think you were ripped off??
Guess you do not realize that once the merchant accepts an expired coupon they do not get paid for that coupon from that company period
So who is ripping off who???
You put yourself in this situation so you get the consequences for your actions
